Slow?

How's it going guys? I am a new owner of the tC. I have to say, I'm kinda disappointed. It seems to get slower every day. Maybe I'm just not driving it right? I get blown away at every green light. I have to redline it in every gear to keep up. One of my most embarrassing moments was getting served by a dump truck at a stop light (it wasn't loaded). The idle is a little rough as well. Anyone else with similar issues? I brought it back to the dealer and they laughed it off and told me to get the supercharger. Is there anything you can really do if you bring it back to the dealer and have it checked out for "being slow"?

Thanks,

Bill

First off, welcome to TN! Hmmmm, you don't have your parking brake on a little bit do you? It will still allow you to drive, but it will slow you down a lot. You could try taking it to a track, get some 1/4 mile times, and if you're way off of the estimated times by toyota, car magazine's, and other online sites, then try and figure out what the problem is. Good luck.

Thanks for the propmt response and warm welcome No, I always remember to disengage the parking brake. I've been driving for about 10 years now and this is my first new car but not my first manual trans.

This is going to sound sick, but I wish each and every day that I get T-boned just so I can get rid of it. I will have to say however that I'm coming off a V8 pickup truck. Maybe I just got used to the tC and now it feels slow? But why can't I keep up at green lights? I just don't want to look like an idiot when I bring it back and say "check this thing out because it's slow"

The tC is by no means a "fast car". Most mid size sedans now a days have anywhere from 160 to 250hp at the wheels, so don't expect to win at every green. On the other hand, the tC is by no means a slouch. 160hp with a 5 speed will get you from a to b and put a smile on your face Sure the tC will probably only give you mid 7's 0-60, but if that's not fast enough, get a supercharger! And you're right, going from a v8 to the tC is taking it down a noch. The tC would be a lot faster if the damn thing didn't weigh 2900lbs (i still have no idea how a 3dr hatchback weighs that much...). I on the other hand will be going from a mutty 108hp 3speed (yes, 3speed no overdrive) auto 95 prizm to the tC soon. So even if i just stick with the factory engine it'll feel 1000x zippier

But anyway, I think you should have a friend sit in the car with you (find someone that wont weigh your car down too much, lol) and clock some tests. maybe a 1/4 mile and a few 0-60's. Just a thought.

A new engine doesn't put out as much power as a fully broken in engine does. Wait 7-10,000 miles for an improvement.

what ever happened to the elaborate engine break-in proceedure? Never redlining it until about 1000 miles +, not hot rodding etc etc for a while? I see people driving 90miles an hour in brand new cars and I'm thinking gee, those ain't gonna last too long!! It used to be no more than 60mph, but then came "Republican revolution" and all the speed limits went to 65, shit over here if your car can't do 90 then you're in trouble.
