TRUE mileage not epa

I am about to buy my xb but wanted to find out what other owners of these little boxes are getting for mileage. Not what the epa says but what you really get. Hope to hear good news here. Thanks
Al

im getting about 25mpg because i've been driving on the streets, not on freeways. oh, and i always warm up about 3-5 mins, that causes to use up gas more...

I get pretty close to the EPA numbers myself. Fuel mileage goes down alot on the highway if you drive over 75 mph though because of the short final drive ratio (4.30:1)

If you drive under 75, and you don't roar around town in 2nd or 3rd gear then you will get close to the EPA numbers to. Just drive sensibly, upshift early and you'll get 30-35 mpg consistently.

Tercel626: Why on earth would you warm your car up for 3-5 minutes? Do you realize it only takes 30 seconds to get the engine oil circulating in normal temperatures and maybe a minute and a half tops when it is very cold out?

What you're doing is actually BAD for your engine. it's a good way to cause carbon buildup. Read you owners manual or ask anyone who really knows about cars. The BEST way to start the engine is to warm up for 30 seconds, then drive off gently. The little blue light on the Scion is a coolant temperature indicator, it has nothing to do with the engine oil. All that is, is a polite suggestion to drive gently until it goes out, not an invitation to go back in the house and have a sandwich and a coke and read a newspaper while your car idles outside.

Just some friendly advice though. Stop doing that. It's worse for your car then if you let it warm for 30 seconds and just drove off gently, trust me. Idling for long periods is bad.

Well I'm not sure that 30 seconds is enough. I do understand long periods (3-5min) warming your car is bad. But I think the most appropriate time is 1 (ONE) Minute. You shouldn't be going over than that. On cold mornings, 2 (TWO) Minutes will be enough.

I have no problem with that. 1 and 2 minute rule. It's easier to remember too.

HAHA!!! 1 to 2 minutes for warm-up? LOL. The other night, I locked my keys in the car...with it running...LOL 1 1/2 hours later, my wife finally got home with the other set of keys. I just installed a viper alarm and am still learning the DO's and DO NOT's with the system....One DO NOT is put the key in the ignition and then proceed to open the hood...LOL...instant door locker there!!!

Gas Mileage

I am getting about 33 mpg I have about 1200 miles on it and have filled up3 times. I am still breaking my car in so once I get to 2k miles on it then I will start beating on it.

In general I have found some gas companies work better than others, I tend to stay away from the independents stations. I get the argument gas is gas all the time it comes from the same refinery. In my opinion and from what I experience the car runs better and I get better gas mileage from the corporate stations.

I'm getting 34-36 on my 04 5spd with 25K miles mostly highway. I used to get much worse, like 29-31. Nothing's changed... I don't get it, but I like it.

Talking 3 Months Of Gas

I bought my XB in February, a couple weeks ago, I filled up when I got to work. I had driven 6278 miles and total fuel based on running total at fill up was 166.4 gallons for an average of 37.72 MPG. MY trip to work mostly highway/expressway or country roads is 26.5 miles and usually takes 30 minutes in the AM without traffic. The return trip is 45 - 60 minutes due to lots of stop and go through town to interstate and on and off of interchanges.

I tend to drive 65 - 75 on the highway sometimes more but not often. Have had zero problems, would like a bit more acceleration at highway speeds but cannot complain and smile everytime I hit the gas pumps.
