tire size help

I have been searching online for rims and tires and they say the recommended size tire is 205/40 17" for an xB. I feel that this will provide a rough ride (we are getting the TRD springs and shocks/struts installed) and I may trash the wheels hitting potholes due to the shorter sidewall. Can anyone tell me if this will be an issue and also can I get a 215/45 or 215/50 to fit? Please post some of the sizes you guys are running as it will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. It will be VERY helpful in the near future. I did talk to a tire shop and they said not to go with the 215/45-17 as it is a taller tire (almost an inch difference from the 205/40) and it will put a strain on the drivetrain over time not to mention the immediate difference on the speedometer. Any truth to this? They recommended the 205/40 and said I could go with the 205/45. I know "lo-pro" is cool but I really don't want to worry about potholes as much as I will with the low profile tires.

This is an old thread but I feel it needs the proper information.
The correct tire size for a 03'-06' xB in 17" is 215/40/17 not 205/40/17. The 205 according to Tire Rack is under weight rated for the xB and will make the speedo read 3 mph high from not being tall enough.
