I never had Perma Plate, so I hope it is o.k. I offer an opinion. I think you are on the right track with respect to waxing the car instead of getting the Perma plate. It sounds like it is a way for a dealership to get more $$ out of you. I read some posts on another forum, where someone experienced a lot of swirl marks (assuming from an orbital polisher) on a black car with Perma Plate, and I guess it could never be fixed. I always wax my own car, and IMO my paint still looks good on my black 91 accord. I had an minor accident where they had to replace my front fender, and they waxed the car with an orbital polisher, and I had swirl marks all over. I use a Meguires wax and apply in a back and forth motion. A lot of people just don't see the need to polish their cars, so they get faded paint. Black absorbs heat whether in Florida or a northern climate (like mine-Chicago) in summertime. Bugs and bird crap is the same everywhere. You may have to wax more then twice a year, but I think you will be fine.
The only thing I question is the introduction of the new water-based paints(?). I guess they are still too new to see the long-term effects.
You will have to post some pics of your black tC, because that is the color I am thinking about as well.
