looks like I either have to change my driving style or move out of New York City.

Im getting about 300-350 on about 11-12gallon fill ups.

I have a 5spd manual, I usually shift around 3k and I have a bad habbit which is hard for me to let go of rev to high into 1st.

yea my calibrated butt dyno says the VVTI starts kicking in around 3200 and is full on by 3800 RPMs. they key to good MPG is to avoid getting into those rpms. shifting at 3k vs 3.8k is the difference between 31 and 35 MPG.
the car is geared so low that i use 2nd to start most of the time and go straight to 4th in the city.

using the on the fly MPG in the city will really show you where you can improve your MPG. obviously its not perfectly accurate.

i have to admit now that gas has dropped $1.50 a gallon in the last two weeks i drive much more aggresively and expect this to be my first 30 MPG tank

We're just under $2.50/gal around here, but I admit that I'm a little more willing to put my foot in it now. The closer it gets to $20 or less to fill the tank, I enjoy driving it more.

haha i've been driving a bit more aggressive than before too...it's weird...when i bought my 02 maxima gas price started going up after hurricane katrina...sold it a little over a month ago and now price starts dropping. could never really enjoying driving the maxipad aggressively =/ oh well i'm just happy i'm finally paying under $30 a tank of gas lol

btw i'm averaging 27-28 mpg with my car hopefully it'll get better once it fully broken in...i know it's not a toyota but it's the same engine as the corolla xrs =P
