09 Corolla Mileage

Hi, I just went on a trip with my new 09 Corolla S, with 5-spd manual this weekend and logged 37 mpg (75% @70 mph highway and 25% @ 60 mph) on the trip. I had 4 people (2 adults and 2 teens) in the car and a full trunk.

My ? is: Can I expect better mileage with this car with just a driver in the car and not loaded down, I will be driving this car 80 miles (speeds of 60 mph with very little stop and go) to work and back.

Great Forum,
Thanks

Hmm, not sure if I can answer your question, but I'm speculating that you will get better mileage as you use your car more since it's still new...New parts have greater friction, hope I'm right

Pretty sure any car that has less weight on it going at the same speed a loaded car will save more gas.

Everybody says that after the car engine breaks in....you'll get a little better gas mileage too. (which was already said BTW)

Saw the pics of that baby!! What an awesome looking XRS!

You use gas getting up to speed, once you get there (mph) it takes very little (hp) to maintian that mass at given speed. You use most of your gas overcoming wind resistance. You use more gas going 75 mph instead of 65. Unless you tuck behind a semi-truck.
If you are getting 37mpg at highways speeds in a new car, you can thank the engine efficiency Gods or the tail wind that pushed ya (hmm...thank the Gods for that one too)
