I've not tangled with it personally, but here's a link to a Tundra forum where someone has done a good job walking through it (Tundra uses the cartirdge too):

J-MO,thx for the pix and how-to from the Tundra guy-I am going to try and put my Rolla up on ramps this weekend and investigate-I like to drop the oil and filter @ 1200 miles on new rides due to break-in detritus-will still have about 900 miles til' 1st change and if I beat other DIYers to a done change I'll give a blow-by blow account-too bad I'm comp-illiterate re: photo stuff but I should be able to put words to the sweet music that lying on cold cement watching dirty oil drain fills your head with...

It is for the 1.8 vin code "u",I've read that the 2.4 has a conventional spin-on filter[lucky dogs!]

this is for the V6 engines on Avalon/Camry that use cartridge type oil filter

(this guy had some cool trick to drain the oil -- garden hose)

gen6 cam vids and came across the DIY oil&filter change.

The Corolla oil filter is much simpler than the avalon.

If you can spin a filter on, you can replace the cartridge just as quickly.

They are correct. 04152-37010 (Made in Japan) or 04152-YZZA6 (Made in Thailand -- the commonly-supplied filter) are correct for the 2ZR-FE engine.

2009 Corolla oil filter

I just replaced the oil filter, uh, cartridge, on my new 2009 Corolla LE. It is next to the oil pan. The part number is 04152-YZZA6. I had to go to the dealer to get it. They only charged me $4.25 for it. He sold me the wrench for it as well (attaches to a standard 3/8 inch sockit wrench) for $10.99. I haven't been able to find/buy the new cartridge anywhere else (yet).

yea see ! haha people have found metal chips in the car, thats why i said in another post to just change the oil at 500 miles, and they again at 1,500, why not you know ? oil and the filter will cost you around 20 bucks, there is a site that is selling a pack of 10 OEM filters for our cars for 35 bucks ! it is such a steal
they are selling genuine oil filters for the 09 corolla !

it is true that we can buy at bargain cost if we buy oil filters in bulk but the thing is not all car owners have the patience nor the skill to do oil changing by themselves. so if you fall under that category, having frequent oil changes will also cost you a lot of money. not to mention having to give an hour or less to wait for oil change at the dealership.
