I am planning on getting a factory remote starter. Does anybody know if the controls will be integrated with my existing key or will I have to carry around a transmitter? Also, how much is it priced at with install from Toyota? I am trying to weigh the pros and cons with OEM versus getting a Viper (or similar) system with remote starter and alarm at Circuit City or Best Buys.
I don't remember the exact amount but when I got mine I think remote start was something outrageous like $450, maybe more. I don't remember whether it was integrated with the key because as soon as I saw the price I immediately lost interest.
I just purchased an 09 Corolla Sport with Keyless entry and wanted to add the Alarm and Remote start system from Toyota, they told me I could do the RS3200 VIP Plus, but since my Car was Manufactured at the NUMMI Plant, that I couldn't install the Remote start, and that the Car had to be manufactured in Japan. I don't know why that would matter though.
Where the hell is the NUMMI plant? What's the difference if its made in Japan or Latvia? I wonder why would it not be possible to install the remote starter like he said. You should get a second opinion at another Toyota Dealer.
There are quite a few wiring differences between Japan (TMC) made and North American made (NUMMI and TMMC).
Definitely get a second opinion though, as far as I know the NUMMI ones have the same wiring as the TMMC ones, and we can install the remote starter in TMMC models.
I spoke with my dealership again and I was told that they have Instructions on how to install the remote Start on NUMMI built corollas so they told me that they could do the install
I would stay away from any non toyot remote start , The toyota dealer installed a third party remote start/alarm on my 09 corolla , went fine for the first few weeks and suddenly stopped working and when i tried using it, the engine overcranked.
Crap! Too late. I already went with the Viper 5701 (see image below) system. Which aftermarket model did you get? I already have problems. I have the alarm installed but I still have to wait for some program from the Viper representative to get the remote starter to work. They said that the 2009 Corolla is too new to have the programming map readily available. I am so pissed this is not going smooth!!!

Cost for OEM Toyota alarm and OEM remote starter with installation and tax: $925
Cost for Viper 5701 (alarm and remote starter) with installation: $425

We cancelled our installation for Viper 5701,me and my wife decided to get more info about it.So what's the update?Did they fix the bug?Thank You....
Actually, the installer just called me early this week and told me that the new map finally came in (after waiting for about a month with no remote start function) so I will get it finalized tomorrow. I will keep you updated on the results. So far, the keyless entry and the trunk release has been working like a charm. They haven't figured out how to program the alarm to beep/honk as a confirmation when I arm or disarm. The only sound I get as confirmation comes from the transponder itself. So if I am ever lost in a giant parking lot, I won't be able to locate my car unless I use the panic feature. I think I can live with that.
