My 09 Corolla S Remote Engine Start

I did some searching for want I wanted in a RES. I have heard good things and bad things about the factory RES. I wanted to keep my original Key FOB and did not want an extra remote to carry around. I got a buddy who works for Toyota parts. I got the factory RES for $330 out the door. He printed up 42 pages of installation instructions. I read through them and figured it didn't look that hard, so I made it my DIY project this lat weekend. The 2 hardest parts of the installation were removing all the trim panel. You have to be careful and take your time so you don't damage the trim pieces. Also, the Hood Latch Switch was a little tricky. Once the hood latch switch is done and the panels are removed. It is just a matter of routing and ty-wrapping the harness in place. There is only one wire near the speedometer that has to be spliced. The rest of the harness is just connectors that connect to the junction boxes and the harness. And two "Black Boxes" to mount and connect. All the required clips, brackets and ty wraps were in the kit. Overall, not a bad experience.

Until.....I had the hood switch in, the harness run, all connections and splices made. I secured the harness per the instructions.

Time to register your RES with the vehicle. I followed the instructions provided by Toyota EXACTLY step by step. The procedure after the first 3 steps tells you to look for your Hazard lights to flash once. If the registration did not take the light will flash twice. AFter 1000 times (many a little exaggerated) I never got my hazards to flash AT ALL. I spent a couple of hours rechecking connections, the only splice, and the routing. Everything is correct per Toyotas instruction.

I tried to talk to my dealership to see if there was a tech support number to call. There is none. They suggest bringing the car in. Price: 2-4 hrs of labor @ $87.

Called Toyota Customer Service for a Tech support number to call. There is none. They suggest taking the car to the dealership Price: 2-4 hrs of labor @ $87.

When I spoke to the Service Manager at my Toyota Dealership, His comment was we run into trouble registering these things all the time. Bring it in....Price: 2-4 hrs of labor @ $87.

I'm not sure if i got a bad harness, bad boxes, or if I'm just not getting the whole Registration procedure right, But I would like to save a couple hundred bucks and get this figured out.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate the help
