I know that the 2.4 that comes in the XRS is the same engine that comes in the Scion TC and the Camry. The Camry engine, 4 cyl., is due to be replaced for the 2010 model year. It is reported that it will be a 2.7 liter engine (AR?), about 185 hp and 180 ft-lbs. It will be the same engine that goes in the Venza.
If this goes through in the next year or two, I will be UPSET!!!
I don't like my car, I LUVS it. But--- I would LUVS it more with 30 extra HP and 20 ft-lbs of torque .
If Toyota would just hold off till the 2012 model, I could justify buying a shiny new one (and WILL do it).
I would'nt be too worried. Your engine is suited to your car.
I tested the RAV4 2.4 and the 6. The 6 have so much power that you have to grab tight to drive.
They may increase the output of the 2.4 as in 2.4 Honda accord.

there are horse power mods for the same engine in the xrs but unfortunately no one has successfully configured out using the 09 corolla xrs engine bay.
IIRC the new accords with a 2.4 have 190+ hp output.
Why are you so surprised? In F1 Honda engines have been winning while Toyota have yet to have a single win despite tons of moolah spent.
Im really into F1, and honestly, neither Toyota or Honda is doing very well. Toyotas have the better chassis(Honda F1 chassis seems to be a joke this year, if it wasn't for baricello, I think they'd have best given up and get a head start on next years car now), And Toyota needs drivers that can stay on the track. A little stronger car wouldn't hurt either. It amazes me, the Ferraris, BMW's, Renaults, M-B's, all and have a no incident off track excursion, but, and several other people have told me they've notcied this too, if the Toyota get more than a tire off the grass the car always starts flying apart! What the crap? Freaking wunderboy Massa left the track something like 13 times in the one major rain race this season and that car was still in one piece.

I know that engine mods are out there for other 2.4's. I just wish that the aftermarket companies would get the ball rolling for the XRS faster.
The RAV4 is getting a new 180hp 2.5L engine for 2009, so I'm hoping at some point the XRS gets either that with a 6-speed manual, or perhaps the 2.7L from the Venza/Highlander. If it does, I'll probably trade in for it.
We'll see though I guess, can't make plans about a car if it doesn't even exist yet, lol.
I doubt very much Toyota will put in a bigger engine in the Corolla. They might tweek to get more power or let TRD develope aftermarket stuffs.
Reason I'm saying this is that most countries especially in S.E Asia there is a annual road tax charge by per cc. of engine size.

What does that have to do with anything? The only place that gets the larger 2.4L engine is North America.
Ugh. Why do people keep harping on the Rolla's 2.4L engine. It won't be replaced until the model is redesigned...and that'll be quite a few years from now.
And no WAY will they plug a new engine into the Corolla at the same time they plug it into Camry. So rest assured...your XRS's are here to stay the same.

they put the 2GR-FE in the Camry, Avalon, rav4, sieana, and solara at all about the same time. SO why not put the 2.7 in at the same time? The new 2.7 will now most likely be Toyota's new core engine for most I4 equipped vehicles considering it gets better mileage/power compared to the 2AZ. IT wouldn't make sense to produce 2 different engines that are so close in size.

I doubt the Corolla will get updated until at least 2011 (perhaps 2012), by then the AR series will be used a lot more, methinks. I think if the XRS still exists at that point, it will probably get the 2.5L from the RAV4.
That's my theory, but again, it's so hard to tell what will happen in the next 2 years.

The 2AZ is being replaced with the 2.5L 2AR, so Toyota will have 2 new 4-cylinder engines, the 2.5L and 2.7L. They're even closer in size than the 2.4L and 2.7L, so it obviously makes sense to someone at Toyota.
