Custom Intake Installed

I ordered a 1st Gen mxrs intake on ebay a few weeks ago with hopes of making an intake for my 10th gen. Injen and Weapon-R both have premade intakes but with a high price tag. For that kind of money I could buy other mods that would provide more significant gains. And if worse comes to worse, I can fit the intake onto my 9th gen

I knew the bends on the pipe might be slightly off and I was right. That wasn't a big problem. I also know that securing the pipe would be a problem too but again, it was expected, not a big problem. What surprised me, and is probably my fault for not researching is that Toyota uses a new MAF with the 10th gen. It looks similar to the ones you see on the 1st Gen Matrix and 9th gen corolla but its smaller and the hoes for the mounting screws are aligned differently.

There are a few places online that sell adapter plates so u can use an intake made for the old style MAF but they were about $40. With that said, I purchased a 1/4" Thick aluminum bar and made my own for about 3 bucks.

When making the adapter plate, I made the mistake of facing the MAF the wrong way. As a result that car wouldn't stay started. I plan on making another adapter plate but flipped the intake pipe around for test reasons. I wanted to make sure that the car actually ran and didn't produce any ecu codes prior to me spending the time to make a new plate.

So far the car has been running great. It isn't throwing any codes. Butt dyno says there isn't any significant gains. Throttle response has greatly improved which I had expected since I discovered this when modifying the factory airbox.

Now onto pictures

Here you can kinda see the back of the adapter plate I made. It still looks rough cuz I am still in the testing stages. The colors kinda clash too but I chose this intake because it was cheap and the potential change of failure. If things go well, I might change the pipe to one that fits better. I have a few intakes that might work in mind. You can also see what I did with the breather hose, although again, its on the wrong side of the MAF because I screwed up that adapter plate.

I haven't posted pics of my hood open with my hood shocks so lets add that in

Next task on my list, making that new adapter plate and removing what's left of the factory intake. And oh yea, securing the intake.

Intake - $22
Aluminum Back - $3
2 Hours of labor
Total Cost -$25

Does the company who makes that kit have a name?

Real crafty with the intake though to be back on topic. Good Job!

The hood dampers are made by Sokie tech I believe. Look around on eBay.
