Corolla 2009 auto starter

I bought my new corolla sport 2009 from the Toyota dealer with an aftermarket auto starter / alarm , it worked well in the first week and stopped after. The auto starter wasn't able to turn on the engine. I went back to the dealer and after lots of negotiation they replaced it with a better alarm/auto starter and it ran well for a year after that and I just got the same problem again yesterday when the auto start makes the engine cranks but doesn't turn on. I am thinking of removing the whole system at my own expense and forget about the autostarter. any suggestions? Thanks

I had the same problem with my aftermarket remote start. It worked well for about 3 weeks, then it would just crank the engine for +/- 10 seconds and stop. I brought it back to the place that did it, and because I have tilt/telescopic steering, the cord was pulled from the unit that my coded key was programmed to. Once they adjusted it to allow movement, I've been trouble free since.

Just an idea.. might not be the same thing.

I have a telescopic steering too but I never played with it. This is the second time it happens and the technician who installed it doesn't respond to my phone calls, they are giving me the run around so I will probably just remove the whole thing. what brand is your alarm / auto starter?

Mine is an Excalibur, installed aftermarket by an auto electronics place that specializes in those too-loud radio outfits. I don't mess with my adjustable steering wheel either, but invasive service types are liable to, they are fond of misadjusting my seat. So better check the starter function when get car back from service. Also I try to always set the starter to maintenance mode so it doesn't start accidentally with mechanic's head under the hood. The starter I had on my 2000 Corolla had an interlock switch that defeated starter when hood was open, but the new one was installed more cheaply and didn't include one. The 09 seems to come up to temp faster than the 2000. But my typical winter morning starts are for a 1.5 mile drive, so an auto start is still a good idea.

who makes your remote starter? My Viper system comes with limited lifetime nationwide warranty so if anytime things fail and I don't like one of the installers, I can always go to another one to get my system repaired.

Thanks

Thank you for your responses, my starter type is "AUTOSTART" I had it removed by the dealer last week to avoid more headaches , later , i would probably install the plug-in factory alarm/auto starter which was just released for this vehicle but i will keep it for now as it is.

It is reported that 2009 and 2010 models have few problems with aftermarket auto starters

Every remote starter I ever got would up having issues after a couple of years. I loved the convenience, but it wasn't worth the headaches. I'm sure some are good, but my experiences were anything but.
