I use a very bright flashlight to check mine (parked in a covered garage, so its dark). I also pop off the rubber gasket to get to the cover. Check your owners manual or, if you don't have one, go on toyota.com/owners (register if you aren't on there yet) and go to their manuals page, you can find where the level is supposed to be for the brake fluid reservoir.
Its supposed to be in between the min and max bars.
