intermittent wiper question

I bought my first Toyota yesterday. A 2009 Corolla LE. It has fixed intermittent wipers. It hasn't rained yet, can someone tell me what the time delay is on these fixed intermittent wipers? Thanks

Haha, yeah its a few seconds... like 4-5.

I think it might have taken you more time to post than to walk out to your new car and hit the switch! Welcome to TN!

There is a thread around here for replacing your stalk with one that has variable intermittent settings. I haven't been bothered enough to drop the bucks yet, but it is a handy feature. Wonder why they didn't include it?

I remember reading about the variable intermittent wipers, but I still don't understand the concept of it lol

Anyone care to try and explain

Heh, Yahoo to the rescue. Variable allows you to set different time delays between wipes. With fixed you only get 1 delay timing, so if that is still wiping too soon (not enough water has accumulated) you are on your own to bump the stalk when needed. With variable wipers, you can set a longer delay so it goes when you need it to. Of course the opposite is true if you need a shorter delay but not a constant swish!

I had it on my 01 Eclipse GT, and miss it to some degree.

Most Toyotas without adjustment are usually at 4 seconds from what I've seen. Adjustment usually ranges about 2-8 seconds.

My Corolla S has variable intermittent wipers. I'd find it annoying not to have it. They should just make it a standard feature on all models.

I replaced my stalk to a variable stalk as I hated the timing of the single speed as it was too quick for most light rain. Read through this thread. I even posted pics around post #44.

Ah ok, but I don't think this mod would be worth the $1xx IMO

Worth every penny here in the Pacific NW with the rain we get, but I agree that it may not be worth it in a drier part of the country.

the OP said it is not yet raining in his area so he will need flowing water thru a garden hose.
