Regarding DRL's and HID's...

I've just recently installed a plug n play kit HID on my 09 Corolla XLE and i've noticed that not only when i let my DRL turn my headlights on for me but also when i manually turn the lights on myself that my right headlight flickers and i have to turn off/on couple times before both sides come on.
was wondering if the cause is due to a bad ballast on one side or is it because i still haven't disabled my DRL's and causing lack of power? (shouldn't be the problem since it runs off high beams right?)

I am sorry for your loss of controlled light by putting a HID bulb in a housing meant for a halogen bulb. Perhaps reading the sticky on HID kits above would enlighten you..or maybe try the search function...

In other words, burn in hell you n00b???

There wasn't a friendly way to approach his question at all?

To the OP it's probably a bad ballast/igniter. I would get that replaced before attacking your DRLs.

Removing something that is governed by law (DRLs) and putting in lights that are illegal doesn't seem like a good idea.

The HID trolls strike again.. LOL (ignore)

I'll second what CF said about the ballast/igniter. Try swapping only the ballast/igniters from one side to the other, if it follows you have likely isolated the issue. If not, then follow up with moving the bulb. If it moves with the bulb, it could be your bulb.. The bulb is not likely to be the issue but it rare cases it can be. It's usually working or not.

Additionally I don't think there's a law here in the US about DRL's Many cars don't have them and some have a switch to disable. that's really irrelevant to the issue...

Since your Hids are in the lows.(hopefully) i doubt it is caused by the DRLs. Like CircuitJerk said it probably is the ballast/igniter or bulb. For one of the many I've installed it was the bulb that caused the flickering but i would try the ballast before anything else.

it has nothing to do with the DRL, since 2009 corolla's DRL is running with the high beam and the HID should be installed in the low beam.

Most likely is the ballast that is causing this. Like another poster said. Try switching the balast and see if the problem follows the balast.

Good luck
