Any member installed a dash camera?
Can you please post:
1 make/ type,
2 price,
3 mount method,
4 some clips/pictures please,
5 any problem with dash reflection?
6 recommend upgrade.

I'm seriously considering. My net research gets me more confused. I've narrow to a mini 0803 with A7 chip. About $ 90-130 not including micro sd card.

Thanks.

Will do.

there are a lot of dashcams out there. some ebay cameras are good but don't cheap out since i know some to have issues

i'm using a blackvue dr400 and works great. I can suggest some places around the area to get them and install as there are a few places around that sell blackvue and finevu cameras and are authorized dealers. both are very good cameras and both on the pricer side.

I'll take some pictures for you on my setup in my car.
My youtube channel has my clips from my camera

Nice clips, even see number plates at night and rain shots.
The price of your Korean dr400 is 375 USD from Amazon.com and one of the most expensive.

The one I bought from ebay with free shipping is a fake mini 0803 for USD 28. I'm not expecting much for this price but if I like it, my next one will definitely be a more proper one.

Do I need installation? I thought it's just stick it on the windshield and power cord to cigarette outlet.

I've been reading about it on this site https://dashcamtalk.com/

I had a mini 0801 in my car that I fried when i tried to hardwire it without using the 5v adapter.
Then I bought the A118/B40 after reading about it on dashcamtalk.com
It runs cooler than the mini and daytime recording is actually pretty good, sound recording is leaps better than the mini as well. Nightime, I believe the 0801 was better.

I paid about $80 bucks for the A118 from Amazon, I also bought a hardwire cable from ebay, I am using a 32 gig card and it does about 6-8 hours of recording at 720p, less at 1080p.
I can post samples if anybody is interested.

Yes. Please post sample clips.
My purchase will only arrive in the next 10 to 20 days and in the meantime is trying to learn as much as possible about different make, models, performance and reliability. I've also bought 32gb class 10 cards, angled mini usb cables. I'm sort of playing around with it and below $100 is about what I'll be willing to spend.
Your A118 is nice and discrete.

They are all cheap ebay stuff, installed myself when car was new. They are made for 10 gen Corolla and it's plug and play. Not quite true, rear bumper have to be drilled to fit sensors. Pretty easy job. Still working good. If you do a search in here you'll find picts and howtos.

I had the same question myself but after doing some research I went ahead and bought this one. Price is reasonable and hopefully performance will be good. So far ratings are on the positive side.

That's a good choice. One of the best buy for the price.

Update to my purchase:-

I'm not sure if it's ebay seller's trick. Nearing the arrival date, (30 days) I get a message from seller saying the package was return to them damage. Do I wish them to re-send (which is another 30 days) or a refund.

Another seller another item message me if I find the item OK and to give a positive feedback. I replied item not received yet after 30 days. Seller replied with apology and says item have been sent. I told them to send a replacement. 25 days later, I wrote them and they say I have to place another order because their office does not handle shipping. WTF.

Both case I got my refund without problem.

I've since place an order for a "mobius" from manufacturer from ebay.
Reason I chose it, I have a tint strip on my front wind shield and cannot use suction cup or double sided tape for mounting. This one is so small and light I'm going to mount it on rear view mirror intermediate bar with a home made bracket and maybe magnets. Should arrive in 7-10 days.
I don't need a screen in camera, I have DVD screen built-in in car and a Android N5 to aim it.

Update.
Finally received my "Mobius" last week.
Configured it with my PC, update latest firmware and mount in car.
Installation is easy using neodymium magnets for easy mount/removal but have initial recording problem. Bad micro SD cards from ebay. Bought 3 from 3 different sellers and all fakes.( Note to self- No more memory cards from ebay)
Finally paid full price from Staples on a 32 gb Kingston micro SD.
I've checked recordings and unit work as it should. Now testing looping function which will take 4-5 hours driving.
This is the ebay seller I bought from, He's manufacturer and reliable from all dashcam flight, drone forums that I read.

Will post pictures when I've completed testing.

I just bought the one reviewed in this thread. It just arrived but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. :D

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/9-off-topic/940121-almost-hit-deer-morning-not-cool-video.html

Was wondering when you'll add this to your list of must've toys. Would have been great if you had one on your Alaska drive and the "DEER".

I'm finding it very useful like recording cars cutting in my lane infront of me etc. I now have witness.

Planning to get another one for the back. See what's on sale in Dec. and what's new.

G1WH is a great first camera. I didn't get it because it's hard to mount it discreetly especially with my 5% tint strip in front windshield.

A short driving video I made this week. I've had the SJ1000 for almost a year and bought two. Purchasing a 3rd dash cam Novatek A118 this month. I will warn you guys, don't use the 12v car charge provided by Chinese dash cam. They'll go bad in a few month and can damage the dash cam. The dash cam will get stuck with a charging icon, which will disable the "automatic record/stop" when the car is started/turned off. Buy a good quality usb 12v charger at your local store.

My car is a modified 9th gen xrs with a harsh ride. You'll notice some vibration. The sj1000 factory suction cup mount sucks. I had to use a gopro suction mount and rubber bands to reduce vibration.

Nice crisp shots with gray sky. Can you post clips of night driving. I had look at the SJ1000 but mounting I thought would be a problem.

#23 · (Edited)
Mounting is a problem. The sj1000 has a folding L shape plastic mount used to screw onto monopods. It causes a lot of vibration and suction cup mount was garbage. The camera (I ordered black) is to large to hide in tight spaces and be stealthy. No choice but to take the dash cam off, when parking.

I'll see if I have a night time footage.

Video link is taken in a parking garage, then outside. It was to see how the camera adapts to light and sound. My exhaust backfires, but it didn't. The exhaust system hasn't warmed up from being parked. You'll hear a lot of rev's because I have a Fidanza 7.8 lb flywheel and stage 1 Exedy.

I run the ebay cheapies in my vehicles.
They work well for the price.
Could use better night vision so when these start to die out I will replace with ones slightly better.
I had wire them into my car so key on records, key off stops.

That's what I bought from ebay initially but non delivery and refunded I bought a Mobius. Do you have any clips posted you wish to share here?
Here's mine http://youtu.be/3sZV6_UbcrE.
Upload to youtube took 4 1/2 hours. Have to figure out a way to shorten the upload time.

That's pretty good considering the condition. My mobius is not so good at night. The car and street lights blooms (flashes). Been playing with settings to try to get the best setting.
How long did it take you to upload to youtube? Need some advise.

Such a big difference between the 2 cameras. My Mobius records the same as the A118. Not so good in low light. Same Novatek processor.
The SJ use Ambrarella I think.

Been trolling this thread a bit, and other resources online, concerning dashcams.

I picked up a Blackvue DR600GW-HD with a PowerMagig Pro a few weeks back. Waiting for warmer weather before doing the install. Figured I'd spend a little more and get a nicer quality camera with a great reputation. Plus I really like the wifi AP it gives so you can review video at any time (scene of crash, police encounter, etc)

Good choice. I've read that you should install 3 rd party firmware to really improve unit. Typically from "Alexsoll".
As this is my first dashcam I didn't want to spend too much or one with too many utilities until I'm more familiar.
Word of caution.:|Once you have unit, you'll feel lost when driving without one. Your driving will be more careful and you'll be on constant watchout for idiots on the road. All in all it's great to have a dashcam.
Post some clips. Especially when you catch some interesting moments and share.

I have to chime in here :)

I had a 1995 Ford Escort for 14 years. It was taken out on January 18, 2013 by a guy who ran a red light. After I got out of the totalled car, the guy claimed I ran the red light. He didn't know I had about 8 witnesses :)
After that, I knew it was time for a dash cam I first bought a DVR-207 dash cam. It was good, but I wanted something better. I ended up buying the Panorama S, found here:
https://shop.pier28.com/index.php/dashcams/panorama-s-dashcam.html

It is an excellent dash camera. Video is excellent. I always review to death whatever I'm buying, and this one had great reviews. I am very glad I bought it, and won't drive anywhere without it.

That's a "Best Buy". Jon @ Pier28 gives great, fast service and very knowledgeable. I only found out about him after my purchase.
You agree with my view after having a dashcam.
