Satelite Receiver

I just bought '09 Carolla S and absolutely love it. I know that the radio comes satelite ready, but when I asked at the dealership they were going to charge me $400 to install a Sirius reciever.

I know that you can buy a universal Sirius reciever for $60. So my question is, do I need to go through the dealership, or will the factory headunit control a universal receiver?

Any help would be great, thanks.

i thought all you had to do was just subscribe to the service after the 90 day free air time was up.no need to buy a receiver.it says even if you dont subscibe you can still pick up free sattilite stations.

These units http://www.tss-radio.com/toyota-lexu...ge-p-5709.html have been used - SEE http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...d.php?t=106826. The only problem is the connection to the factory installed XM satellite antenna. You will get the factory antenna to work with the Sirius set-up but you may experience some reduced sensitivity depending on your location. It seems that the antennas are optimized to receive signals from its respective satellites which are oriented in different planes in orbit (Sirius-higher in the sky, XM-lower in the sky). I don't know if the Directed TOY-SC1 integration harness will interface with the AVC-LAN bus connector which is located behind the right hand trunk liner (same area for the antenna connector). If the integration harness did interface with the factory harness, it would make the whole exercise allot easier (no need to pull the head unit to access the satellite port). I have the OEM XM set-up which was extremely easy to install (the only down side was the cost - $480 Canadian for the receiver and fit kit).
