Hello.
I will buy a Corolla XRS 2009, in the brochure, he speaks of “Engine Immobilizer” and anti-theft system. I would like to know what kind of anti-theft system is it.
No dealer could not help me ....
Thanks
Here's what Toyota means in English:
Engine immobiliser - well, an electronic engine immobiliser that's coded to the key. It will not start unless the right key with the right code is insert
Theft-Deterrent System - alarm. That's basically it. All the XRS adds is an alarm. In some cases, Toyota will throw in the trunk release with those vehicles with the Toyota alarm system (i.e. with keyless entry, you simply get two buttons - lock and unlock). Also, a panic button comes with the alarm system.
Hope that helps!

My car doesn't have an alarm system installed. But I do have the keyless entry with the trunk button and the panic button. So I have 4 buttons in total.
Unfortunately...there was an error in the brochure and XRS (in CANADA) does NOT come standard with anti-theft system. That's still a dealer-installed option.
All Corolla's come with engine imobilizer as standard.
I've been installing 12 volt accessories for over 20 years, here's what I do to test for a factory alarm. Roll down drivers side window, lock the vehicle with the factory remote, wait about a minute and reach in the drivers window and open the door with the manual lock knob. If you here a alarm, you got one, if you don't, you don't.
Big-ass thread in the 07-08 Tundra section about that OEM alarm. Seems the basic alarm is already installed in the Tundra, if 1) You have the key immobilizer and 2) the power door locks w/ remote lock/unlock. Most of us didn't realize we had as it comes from the factory......Unactivated! WTF- Some guys had to pay to get the alarm activated. A lot of Toyota service depts don't realize that this system is on the Tundra either.....and that caused some good reading as guys had to explain, in detail, to the technicians, how to activate the alarm. I wonder how many of the new Toyota's may have this built-in feature already? I'll try to post the link:
I got mine activated free.....but I had to convince them (techs) that the alarm was there just waiting for the computer hook up and to flip it on. This is just the basic alarm, not the GBS (glass breakage sensor). Still, it's good to have when the door is open after it's set....and the alarm/ horn goes off. You just described how we test it. Lock doors w/ remote (leave a window down), wait a few minutes, then reach inside and open door. Horn should start blowing.

There's this blinking light on the Corolla's dashboard saying security. It blinks a red light when the engine is off. What is that? is that the car alarm? I don't think I have the alarm installed.
What would be a good 3rd party alarm to get? I would like something with motion detection and glass breakage. I dont really know anything about alarms so any help would be appreciated. Here is one i found online, but i dont know the reputation or quality of it and i would also have to install it myself.
Yohan, have you tried the test? Lock doors w/ remote, but leave a window down. Wait a few until the red light on dash comes on, but wait a minute or two. Reach inside the open window to open the door. (this simulates someone breaking in the car) The horn should start blaring.
When most of us got the new Tundra, the red light in the dash didn't work (hell, I didn't even know it was there) until it was activated at the service dept by a tech with the service computer. BTW- There is a bunch of functions that can be turned on, or off, by that tech and computer. Like seatbelt dinging, key fob stuff. In one of the threads it goes into more detail than I care to explain, plus I can't remember. Shit I don't really want or need.............Kinda like a $900 alarm system for my car or truck. If the .40cal S &W can't protect it, Insurance is my backup!

That light is for the engine immobiliser.

Ahh... glad to see Toyota upped the ante and gave you all that. Now there really is no reason to get the alarm (esp. when it's Cdn$400)

What? Are you saying that I already have an alarm system? Why the heck did I go off buying that Mobile Trace for? I now feel like I wasted money.
Check your car. If the little flashing alarm light has another hole near it, then that's the glass breakage sensor...and you have an alarm system. Otherwise I believe you just have immobilier.
