Bluetooth Fanatic

Anybody know what the cost and level of difficulty is for installing a factory bluetooth system? I have an 09' S and it did not come with this feature. I should've made sure it was equipped before signing the stupid X's.

You will have to go aftermarket since you can't install a factory one. The only way to get it is if you ordered the EJ code or JBL 6 disc changer option. From my knowledge, none of the S models (1833/1834) in the LA region are currently built with this option. You would have had to special order it.

Wow. Did the salesman tell you the car you bought had bluetooth? Bluetooth is a bit of an unusual feature. I bet many people buy the JBL and are unaware it has bluetooth rather than people assuming the other radios have bluetooth without checking.

You can't get the factory bluetooth now, but you can get an aftermarket bluetooth kit. BlueConnect and CigBlue look the most OEM and are hard wired to the car.
Otherwise, you can get some nice rechargeable kit that clips onto the sunvisor. The MotoROKR T505 and the new BlueAnt "Supertooth 3" are probably the best you can get. They can last for up to several weeks between recharging depending on how much you use them.

Wow, I am screwed then. Yea, I am pretty sure it wasn't intentional for my salesman to mislead me. It was a late deal for me and he was rushing everything. Oh wells, I guess its back to the bluetooth earpiece for me. Thanks for the help fellas...

If you were closer to the Canadian border, Bluetooth is a dealer installed accessory up here, but I hear that it does not have steering wheel controls like the US factory installed version does. I really would like the steering wheel controls but I suppose I'll have to do without when I finally get the XRS so it kinda sux the US has the option but not Canada, even though some of those US bound cars are made right here in Ontario.

Bluetooth is factory installed only in the JBL stereo.

You don't need to go to Canada or have a Toyota dealer install accessory bluetooth. If you don't have the JBL stereo, you can get BlueConnect or CigBlue installed at a stereo shop for much less than any dealer will charge. There is no official Toyota bluetooth accessory available, so there is no advantage to paying a dealer to install it for twice the price.

Hmmm, I thought the Canadian version was a Toyota accessory--if that is not the case, I agree, I'd rather get it installed elsewhere for half the price too. It's too bad the JBL/bluetooth option is not available in Canada, I'd have gone for that. Not sure if I want to get a better stereo, but if I do, I'd probably get the bluetooth and stereo at the same time.

Yes there is an official Toyota Bluetooth Accessory. Don't think it's available in the USA since you guys have the factory option (which we do here on the Matrix -- but not on the Corolla). It's just made by someone else with the Toyota logo on it I'm sure, but whatever .

I priced out how much it would cost to install factory bluetooth in my 09 XRS, and needless to say the thousands of dollars aren't worth it to me... especially since I don't even have a cell phone.

That bad, eh? Thousands, geez! I am pretty much moving towards getting just the base XRS with NO add-ons at all (well, maybe body side mouldings, which I'll try to get the dealer to throw in ) and then take it from there for any upgrades (stereo, bluetooth etc etc...)

I am wondering if they are going to make the MY10/11 with the factory bluetooth/JBL as an option, like the Matrix XRS (Canada) though...
