Speakers in the rear doors?

Hey all,

If i buy the new Corolla, then i would consider putting rear speakers in the rear doors. My plan:

1. Front door speakers are the same as factory locations...woofer + tweeter components

2. Rear door will contain small coaxials (4" coaxials) just to provide ambience to the rear passengers...to keep the soundstage up front. In other words, the rear passengers are still hearing most of the sound from the front speakers with the rear door speakers enhancing the sound by providing ambience.

3. The rear shelf will be reserve for dedicated 6x9 subwoofers (if i can find a good set).

My goal: good sound with good staging without wasting any space in the trunk. I am not into highschool headbanging bass...so two 6x9 subs should be enough to provide enough bass.

So, how hard is it to add speakers to the rear doors???? Anyone has done it either on Corolla or another car where the rear doors do not come from factory with speakers holes.

Though the rear doors have a slightly different design than the front, Im sure if you pull the door panel off then there will be a hole and mount points for speakers, if not then take all of your measurements from the front doors then cut and mount your speakers, as for wires just run them up and piggy them off of the front doors. That is my suggestion.

It will take some planning but I am sure that someone will be able to pull it off.

If wasting trunk space is your only problem you might take a look at the Nissan Rogue sub-woofer installation. IIRC it's mounted right on the spare wheel cover utilising the well. Then you do not have to touch the OEM installation.

If you can handle a good filling sub woofer, I use a 6" Bazooka 150 watt sub woofer. It's about 8" around and 18" long. Mounts in the trunk with straps. It can be dis-connected and removed in less that a minute. I like mine and it only costs around $150.

Don't expect it to shake the tail lights off though. Just good accurate bass.
