Question 09 Corolla S Navigation System

Has anyone successfully found a way to override the "safety" feature of the 09 Navigation system using the 7.1 disc? I tried using the hybrid disc here:

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh....php?p=2306132

I just get a error message when I reconnect the battery that tells me to insert the correct map dvd. I waited well over five minutes and the hybrid disc never loaded. It does read the disc. If I take the original disc out and replace it with the new hybrid disc the system still works, but I can't access the "system menu" that is described.

Anyone that knows a way to get this to function while the car is moving is my hero. As far as I'm concerned it's worthless without being able to choose a destination while on the move. If I'd have known it was like this I never would have gotten that option. I would have gotten the JBL, bluetooth and bought another Garmin!

I'm willing to splice wires, re-wire or what ever it takes. I'm going nuts with this peice of junk! Please, Please help!!!

Thanks

Do you either have to set the parking brake or place the tranny in park to add a destination?

No, you don't have to be in park or set the e-brake. The car just can't be moving faster than like 2.5 MPH. Once you start moving a majority of the touch buttons are "grayed out" and are no longer functionable.

Sounds like the lockout is caused by movement of the car detectable by GPS. My best guess would be that it will be very dificult to bypass this safety feature. A reprogram of the hard drive for the navi may be required.

In the past it has been bypassed with a hybrid DVD. What I need to know is if the v5.1 loading.kwi file is vehical specific. If so could someone possibly post a link to the v5.1 Corolla loading.kwi file?

Anyone have any luck with this yet? I've only had the car 2 weeks and I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to get this to function while moving. It's otherwise worthless if you always have to pull over to use it. Isn't that the whole point of a GPS? Traveling in an unknown region, you get hungry and search for a place to eat or a gas station that is along your route.

So far I just take my Garmin with me! Much better system and it works while the car is moving, what a concept. If I would have known this when we ordered the car there is NO WAY we would have gotten the Navigation System. Anyone that reads this - Save your money, get the 6-Disc w/Bluetooth and buy yourself an aftermarket GPS that actually functions!!!

I'm not sure the exact cost of the Navi system itself. I look at Toyota.com and build a car. The package that I have is Package M ($5,834) and the package I want is Package L ($5,394). I'm going to the dealership tonight to see if they can do anything for me. I've had the car for 14 days and just want them to take out the Nav System and put in the JBL radio w/Bluetooth. According to the package price the radio should be about $440 cheaper. Maybe that will cover the labor, but I doubt it.

The kicker on the situation is, even with the car stopped and searching for a location I would not find Madison, WI. This is a problem. I live in WI and Madison is the capital??? I've also tried to locate two different streets in Madison (couldn't even find the city and I was in it) and one in Racine, WI and it couldn't even locate the street. Not to mention the address. Remember, this is an '09 that is 14 days old with the newest v7.1 DVD.

Bottom line is, this system doesn't work! Wish me luck at the dealership.

Ok, I'm a moron. Apparently you need to set the "Region" on this nav system. Now it finds what it should.

The dealer told me there is "no way that they are installing the JBL system instead!" That would apparently require them to replace the steering wheel, a couple of wiring harnesses and the install would cost me approximately $3,800. They were very nice about everything and did offer to sell me another car exactly like mine with the system I wanted for $440 less than I payed for this one. They suggested that I sell this one on Craig's List and order another one from them. I could probably have it in 6-8 weeks.

None of that will be happening. Lesson learned and I guess I should be happy. It is the very top of the line package offered on the S series and I'm happy with the car itself.

SO...let's pray that someone comes up with a way to bypass the stupid "safety feature" on the '09 Corollas. Lockpick anyone?

The generation 5 navigation systems can run a hybrid 7.1/5.1 navigation disc that would allow you to use the override menu that was available on previous versions.

You can contact me with any questions

Kidrick I'll send you some more info by pm.

I know this is outside of the Corolla model.. but step02, do you have any brilliant solutions for unlocking the 2008 Sequoia JBL nav system? I've been searching everywhere with no luck!! Thanks for any advice you or anyone else has!

Hey Step02 or anyone else, have you figured out how to get it to work while driving at normal speeds? I REALLY want the nav in the XRS I'm ordering but It's useless if I have to use it while going 2mph.

Is there a link to the DVD software that I can burn and try on a car on the lot to make sure I can ge to that menu and turn off this stupid "safety" feature?

Thanks for the help guys this is probably my biggest concern before I punk down the cash.
