Yup they are pretty sad! I had my own laughing fit when I was at the tinting shop and we took off the back cowling exposing the "speakers"!! I wish it would have been an option to have no sound system in my xrs so i could have saved 2 bucks off the sticker price! And just buy a decent aftermarket one later on. I am always left wondering why people spend any money on factory systems, base or upgraded... there are so many better choices out there for your money... i guess some just dont know any better

I didn't want to give that up so I put in an alpine MPF 300 amp, and in the rear some alpine 6x9's in the front go with a componant speaker system like the alpine 600 c's it sounds fantastic, The amp has adjustmants for your High level inputs, it gets load more enough to overcome road noise. The componant speakers give you a nice spacial sound.
Did you hook up something between your factory Nav and the componant speaker system? Aside from the AMP something like a JL Cleansweap ?

i say for now just replace your head unit and add subs and then do your door speakers when you feel its right or when you blow them, because i already blew 2 of mines lol (that i replaced), because i had 1 kicker 15 compvr in mines with the stock head unit and the problem with that is your radio only goes up to 62 and with your factory radio it cant pick out your mids and highs so it just pushs every speaker in your car to the max, so now i traded my 15 for 2 alpine type r 10s and bought an alpine flip out indash, but i just need to learn how to remove the factory radio now lol

No nothing but the amp, I picked up metra connectors so I didn't have to cut ANY factory wires.
If you replace the head unit first, you'll still have the same siound as nop! The speakers make the
MOST differance in what you hear because they are Mechanical devices. You can improve the sound
just by putting better speakers in but you might not get much volume, new speakers will need more power to drive them. I put my amp under my passanger seat.
