I have an iPhone 5 that I have been able to receive messaging through the car but cannot send a message out. Is there a setting I need to correct or is this normal with iPhone 5? Thanks!
I have the same problem on mine. I've re-paired, double and triple checked settings... Etc. Then I realized we have the same issue on our 2014.5 Camry XLE. I think that the iPhone doesn't allow entune to send messages out.
Check out the Entune webpage on Toyota.com. I believe that outgoing messaging is not a feature for Entune with the iPhone of any model variety. Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App
OK check out the page as you suggested and you are correct. Entune can receive Text messages with iPhone but can not send text message.

We don't have Entune in Canada, I can receive messages, but not send them also. I thought there was a way to do email also, but so far emails I have received while in the vehicle have not shown up on the screen.
We are at least one or two model years too early it appears. Apple Carplay will eventually be a part of all Toyota vehicles. Hopefully someone will come out with a software aftermarket version eventually.
ya that was kind of my point. I spent a couple of hours, pairing, unparing, rebooting phone, restoring it, but never got the emails to show, only text messages when in the car will show a new message. Read the manual over and over again but nadda.
Received a text today while driving. Actually forgot I set it up weeks prior. Made an alert sound then asked in text if I want to hear the message. Message was read.
Two questions: does your IPhone 5 charge when it is plugged into the USB and playing for example "Pandora," or will it eventually be totally discharged while playing.
I borrowed my son's Nexus phone to test Entune and I often got a connectivity problem when using Pandora--is that a frequent occurrence?

I have a charging case always attached to my iPhone so I don't have to worry about discharging. I am connected via Bluetooth. I can also charge using usb if needed.
Whats the big deal ? Siri will read your messages to you and respond thru the car system in exactly the same way. You're just pushing the home button instead of the talk button.
To the Canadian users with iPhones. I can't get the messages to play through the audio system. I was able to sync 3 separate iPhones but not access the messaging. Is there some sort of setting I need to select on the iPhone.
Thanks
Dan

See if this works for ya. On the iPhone click on settings > Bluetooth you should see a blue circle with a i in it. To the right of your Highlander paired phone. Click on the blue circle and select Show Notifications.
I am having trouble setting up messaging with my iPhone. Can anyone tell me how to do this? My phone links my contacts automatically, but not my messages.
It won't sync all your messages, only new ones being received. You have the option of reading it if you are not moving or to have the system read it for you if you are moving.
when using Entune features is this using my phones data plan? I don't have an unlimited data plan so I don't want to use anything that will eat up my minutes .
I haven't yet tried the texting w/my iPhone & highlander, but my dh has a '13 Avalon & blackberry & he is able to text quick preset responses to incoming texts he receives. I assumed I'd be able to do the same on the HL. drag.

so yesterday my texts were being read to me. Kids had a great time texting me things like "I am a machine and will take over your life. fear me." quite funny when the car reads it out loud to you.
today the text functions aren't working at all. not sure why? thoughts? no change in phone or settings.
now it is working with some texts but not others - is this just a super glitchy system?
I did make sure that my phone was using 4g instead of the wifi from my house, which might have contributed, but two different people were texting me at one time & one was coming through the system and the other one wasn't. Have no idea why.
Wish I could help, but I haven't had any issues with my 2014 HL Limited. Texts come through consistently, whether iMessage messages or standard SMS messages.
I have notifications set in both messages and Bluetooth connection we Toyota. I don't have my messages set to banner or alert though, so I will try that. I just have sounds and badges on. Worth a shot. Thanks!!
Let the phone sync up completely before you take it out of Park.
On your cell, once it connects your BT should have some options on where to have some features routed.
I had the cell connect for months without this working, and once I changed the setting on my iPhone (its a back up, primary is an Android) I started to get the texts on the car stereo. It is helpful at times, and yes the kids get a kick out of it.
What I'm wondering is that if it does this Text Reading, why can't I select text from Safari or a webpage and have it sent out to be voiced?! Is there an App for sending webpages to myself as text and I can be entertained for a good chunk of time?
Siri is very compatible with the head unit. If you have the newest iOS and plug the phone in to charge (not the USB port for the nav) you can just say "hey Siri" and then ask her to do whatever you want. As long as bluetooth is connected and selected as the source the voice and mic of the car will run Siri. It works really well.
Cool. Will have to give it a try. Haven't had a chance yet. Just got my car Friday night and been playing with the damn message thing lol.
I finally got the messages to work. Only way I could do it was to set the iMessage notification to alert. I find alerts very annoying in my phone as I get a lot of texts, but if this is the only way to get the car to read them to me, then sobeit!!
Ok!!! I mastered it!!! It actually doesn't matter what notification you have set, banner, alert or non. But you have to have your iPhone iMessages show on your locked screen!!! When I take it away from the locked screen, I don't get the messages in the car. And you may or may not have to set it to show in your notification centre. I just turned everything on then once it worked played with what I could remove. Hope that helps!!!
One other thing I found out some what related. Android will likely NOT read the messages. They have something called the Android Auto that will be like a Siri via Google+, yet to be released.
But with Apps like Voice to text that already exist like Vlingo. Or Text to Voice like SpeechToText, and others, this should already work by linking the app, no?
