I remember someone posting something about this in the past - tried a search and couldn't come up with it.
But..... was on a bluetooth phone call today while driving down the highway... when suddenly the call was terminated...
I looked at my Entune Screen and the entire screen went black and shut down.... and then booted itself back up with the Toyota Welcome screen and legal boilerplate screen, etc.
:wtf:
Anybody else come across this issue? First time it has happened to me.... do you think it was just a fluke?
Happened to me once a few days after i bought it. I was driving and trying to make a phone call and noticed my screen wasn't responding. It froze about 5 seconds or so then boots by itself. I could'nt connect my phone after a few try. I even restarded my phone several times. Maybe just a fluke. Up till now eveything seems fine.
Just got my 2014 on Wednesday and this has happened to me three times. Twice it happened while doing something that I thought might have been overwhelming the system - once it was trying to access all of my text messages and there was something like 60 saved conversations, once I was throwing out a bunch of voice commands that it didn't seem to recognize. But it did reset on me one other time for no reason.
Well, it hasn't happened since, but it's only been a few days.... I'll just see how it goes for a while before addressing it with dealer. We should all take note of this and see if it is widespread or just a random and occasional occurrence.
I had similar issues and got an Entune update at the dealer in June. The issues continued and I just got a new update a few weeks ago, which resolved these issues. My ipod still does not work perfectly with Entune, but it is less annoying now. ipod will stop and reset itself without effecting other Entune features.
So, long story short, take you Highlander to the dealership and request the newest update to Entune software. This can be done in the service write up area but takes about 20 minutes.
Is it necessary to go to the dealer for updates? My Entune (which is linked to my iPhone) downloaded the latest software and updated the system. Are you referring to software or firmware?
Yes, it is necessary to go to the dealer for updates. These are provided to the dealer in a thumb drive issued from Toyota Motor Sales. There are two types of hardware Panasonic and Pioneer. The dealer will quickly check to see which one you have and update Entune with the correct update. Sorry, I don't recall if it is a software or firmware update. It is worth your time to set an appointment to assure you are in and out quickly. I did my update in the late morning after all the write ups were clear form the service write up area.
Would you please post the exact service code from your invoice? Ours has rebooted several times but have not been able to get the dealer to fix. (OK, at this time) I know this sounds a little weird, but all 3 reboots have occurred near the same high voltage power lines near my sisters house. Thanks.
I did not have an invoice, so no service code. I talked to both the service shop manager and TMS Customer Care manager about my problem. The service shop manager called me to set up the appointment. When I arrived he came to my Highlander with the thumb drive and did the update as I watched. Took 20 minutes and I was on my way. Very easy and simple. I had the same multiple reboots. They occurred at odd times and in odd places. Call and talk to the service manager at the dealership directly. Since the update the reboot has stopped and everything works. The ipod still stops and resets at about 50 to 60 songs which is better than before when it simply stopped working and never restarted until it was disconnected, hard reset on the ipod. I have Pandora and XM so the ipod is a nice to have but not critical.
What month/date was your HL built? Mine was built in early June. I am asking because I am wondering if your was older it may have had an older version than mine when built.
I will call Toyota and see if the new 3.2 is officially in Dealers Hands now.
Is there somewhere in your car that says the build date? My Mazda says it on one of the stickers on the inside of the driver door by I can't find something similar on the HL.
I have a 2014 Highlander. Manufactured in January 2014. To all with problems the simple solution is to call the dealer's service manager, explain the problem and work with them to resolve it. Toyota is aware of these issues and their vendors Panasonic and Pioneer are working on it. It is very rare that a hardware replacement is necessary. I personally don't want the dealer to change out the hardware, which may lead to other problems such has squeaks or misfit in the dash. I hope this is helpful. If all else fails contact Toyota Customer Care and open a case number with them.
Just at the dealer this week for my first service (6 months but just 4K miles) and the recall fix. While I was talking with the shop manager about my Entune he mentioned that there will be another Entune update soon. My Entune is running about 95% with the only problem of my ipod stopping at about 50 songs, resting for a few minutes then restarting. Before the fix the ipod shut down completely and needed to be removed, reset and plugged in again. So, for those that have problems even after the most recent update help is on the way. Don't know the issue date, so keep in touch with your dealership.
Mine just got rebooted. This is probably the 2nd time in the past 6 months. Nothing to worry about. Everything's back to normal. It's a computer after all and all computers crash sometimes.
Mine has rebooted four times in last four months. I bought it this past June so also hoping that dealer has update when I bring it in for the six month service.
I don't consider the rebooting normal as this system should be much more solid then my old Windows XP computer!
I've had my 2015 for two weeks & mine had its first reboot this AM. It is very cold out, not sure if that affected it or not. no phone/ipod connected at all - not using any apps or nav - just completely reset on its own as I was driving.
wonder how many times I should let this happen before I bring it in. I would have thought I had the most recent software.
I brought my 2014 Highlander in for my 5k two weeks ago and they said that I already had the latest firmware available. Haven't had a reboot in a couple months though so not a big deal for me.
I haven't lost any settings but sometimes after the reboot, my phone won't reconnected via Bluetooth. After restarting the vehicle, everything is back to normal.
I haven't checked all my settings, but I did notice that it changed the navigation view back to default (which I don't like) - so I assume all settings are back to factory default. not sure.
Just bought a 2015 Sienna SE 2 days ago. Connected Entune by Bluetooth and the now if reboots every 2 mins. Turned off phone connection and no more rebooting. I assume some bug still in the software.
What you do you think it is?
Not a happy customer!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Yes, this exact thing happened to me yesterday several times, I have a 2015 highlander xle with 17k, I freaked out when it happened and I had no idea what to do, the screen must have rebooted by itself at least 4 or 5 times in a 3 hour driving period, it was raining heavily at the time but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I'm looking for answers.
Its happened to me too many times, probably two or three times a month. It ahs been four weeks since my last service and they were to order me a completely new unit to fix multiple of issues (bluetooth connection issues, setting changes, and reboot issues). Must be a backlog of service request for new units.
This just happened with my Highlander few hours ago, 3 reboots in a row. I just got my 5K service few days ago and they replaced the taillights due to condensation, and the rear hatch door actuators... My first thought was they messed up something with the electrical system, then I saw this thread. We'll see how things go from here.
I got my new HL 4 weeks ago and I set up entune app on iphone right away. It downloaded an update using the data from the phone to the car. I have some weird freezes sometimes with navigation, but no reboots.
I was on my way to Leavenworth, WA the other day and it got below 32 degrees and mine rebooted about 4 times. Idk if the temperature has anything to do with it or maybe the software update because it updated itself through Entune or my phone or whatever. Gonna try to find time to take it to the dealership.
I have a 14 Highlander with the same problem. Just took it in to the dealership for service and mentioned it to the service manager. He said there is an internal TSB and they will load the new software, you about 30 minutes to complete.
