What exactly is specific oil maintenance reset procedure for CANADIAN vehicles? Ones in Highlander manual say For the USA models only.
I have a fellow hybrid owner in hybrid forum that can not reset it the usual way, manual has no specifics and dealer told him they will not disclose the steps unless he changes oil at their place.
His is 2015 Highlander with Start button and multicolor display.
I'll be damned, I learned something, I didn't know the Toyota Highlanders had that! I haven't come across it but when I bought mine I get free Oil changes for life at one of the 3 dealers owned by the same person/corporation, which is every 6 months. Unfortunately the nearest one is 1 hour away, but since I have to go there often for various things I just stop in and get the oil changed in less than 1/2 hour and I'm on my way. Next time I'm there I'll see if I can find out how.
I am absolutely not sure WHY it is different for Canadian models and WHY dealer told that guy he will not disclose the steps. Any chance maybe you can call dealer and find out?
It;s insane. I knew light stalk is different but oil minder reset steps?
Any chance you have a picture of what you're talking about? Because the only place where I see anything related to oil life is in the maintenance menu where you can set reminder dates for tire pressure, cabin air filters, etc.
Yes, same thing with me. This one i can find in my head unit (radio/usb/cd/gps screen). But you are right, its only a reminder. Not sure if this is connected to the engine oil reset counter tho.
Reset the maintenance data (U.S.A. only) After the required maintenance is performed according to the maintenance schedule, please reset the maintenance data. To reset the data, follow the procedure described below: Using the trip meter Vehicles without a smart key system: Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position with the trip meter A reading shown. Vehicles with a smart key system: Turn the engine switch off with the trip meter A reading shown. Vehicles without a smart key system: While pressing the trip meter reset button (P. 95), turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (do not start the engine, reset mode will be canceled). Vehicles with a smart key system: While pressing the trip meter reset but- ton (P. 95), turn the engine switch to the IGNITION ON mode (do not start the engine, otherwise the reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter displays “000000”. Using the multi-information display (vehicles with color display) While the engine is running, switch the multi-information display to the “Set- tings” screen. (P. 94) Select “Maintenance System” on the “Settings” screen. Select “Yes” on the “Maintenance System” screen. “Initialization Completed” will be displayed on the multi-information display when the reset procedure has been completed.
So is there a consensus that for some unknown reason newer Highlanders Canadian edition do NOT have maintenance option in Settings menu?
Guy I am routing for called Toyota Canada, they told him to talk to service manager - and dealership already told him they will not disclose reset steps unless he changes oil with them.
Is that some sort of conspiracy in Canada?
Ain't it strange?
Well, my guy finally got a friendly ear at local dealer. They will "guide him through steps" next time he's there, he'll post back, I'll post here how to reset.
Weird.
