All the generic OBD2 to USB adapter you see on the big box sites like ebay, Amazon, Aliexpress, etc. are pretty much all the same. My family has a few cords I've ordered from different sources and they all came out to be the same for the most part. So find whatever you can get cheapest.

You want TS v10 or up for your 3rd gen highlander although older versions will connect.

Also you really need XP Pro 32 bit. Although there are ways to get it to work on W7 and W10, it takes a lot of work and computer knowledge, I couldn't get it to work myself and I'm pretty tech savvy.

Perhaps I am wrong but being interested in this subject I have to ask. Is it taboo to talk about how best to get the Techstream software safely. The threads I have searched on and read leads me to that assumption ?

Unless you are getting it directly from Toyota and paying $2,000ish, It's an illegal copy; and you can't talk /post about where to buy pirated software on these forums.
https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfo...flyertinfo.pdf
That link IS the ONLY "Safe" way to get it, but lets be honest we all find "other sources" online and cheaper......, but they do come with risks, and we can't talk about where OR how to hack your copy if you end up obtaining said illegal copy

I paid about $35 for mine if I recall...
G_gazoo and kiseliok like this.

such a tease but thanks for explanation. I reckon a trip to the dark side is where I'll head. On another note, perhaps someone could test my PM function for me and send me a test PM

Can't answer your question but I can recommend Carista. I've had it since it first came on the market and to the best of my knowledge it can make all of the changeable items in Toyota.
