Have you checked out XenonDepot?
They have links to folks who have with HL 3rd Gen.
Also try ADVANCED search. You can try using the XenonDepot LED lowBeam model name as a search word, as XD is popular on TN, and the sponsored default provider of lighting.

I have a set of the current XD highbeam LED lights, and they are nice and bright. Instant on. Only thing is that in my 2014 model I dont have the stock DRL on the Fogs...So the Highbeams do double duty as the DRL as well.
So when in DRL mode there is a slight flicker that is barely detectable IF you look at it or catch it on a specific time that you can see it. Once you see it, the frequency will be visible.

While those look nice, I have a feeling XD, as usual, takes a step forward in there design to one up the competition in one way or another.
Right now I can wait a few days or a week before making a decision.
Why not have options? With TN discount for XD, I think its worth the wait.

Can someone post a picture of the '17 lights dust cover, with it on and off? A decent size image so I can see things? Please do it in the day time.

I'm thinking most people are way over concerned about this dust cover, as it looks like its just to cover the back of the head. While the mounting hole has its own surrounded covered support. But would love to see a pic to see if its even worth keeping that cover on.

Thank you for your interest in the new Xtreme LED pro bulbs :)

As per your questions:

(1) Our new H11 Xtreme LED pro bulb is still about 50% brighter then a standard H11 halogen bulb. While it's not as bright as HID, it is still significantly brighter than halogen (bright enough for some people), and you also get all of the benefits that @Phil Indeblanc listed above.

(2) You would not need to drill your dust cover when installing this kit in the low beams if you chose not to.

(3) Keep in mind that an H16 LED kit variant is available which is roughly 2-3 times brighter then your stock H16 halogen fog light bulb.

Alfaro, Use lights by Car model on the site.it will match the adapted light. If you have a concern it maybe an issue, shoot them an email. That way people get a direct answer that you can share here once you get them install them and confirm.


So I see a couple pix of the dust cover, and I couldn't see what it looks like inside from any pix of the video off XD.. But I have to guess its just an added cover that can be left off/?.
All the HL and many cars from '14, '15, '16 don't even have it. Regardless, for many folks its no big task to drill a hole for the grommet.
(Other MFG's use a soft rubber cap).

Looking through 2017Highlanders helpful pix, the one with the cover off and showing the light mount point is really dark, but looks like the same as the previous 3rd gen models. So the dust cover is just to keep dust off the back of the housing?

I'm not sure how they compare to the Rav4, but....These are a brand new design, and with each design, they do tend to increase the output, the stability, and the heatsink design to improve, and I wouldn't expect anything other with these Pro series.

The only reason you'd keep the dust covers on is for dust not getting on your fixture housing. Like not getting dust on your engine parts(pointless to me). For LED's, they have heat dissipation wings, veins, or fins, what ever you wanna call them. They are flexible. You can either drill the hole (I think its 7/8", see the XD site for details), and use the grommet that is on the XD LED lights, as it ships with it. You would push the fins inside and cap it with the dust cover. This would just build up heat in the housing. Doesn't make sense to me. I would just do as the '14, '15, '16 's are....with no dust covers. If getting LED or HID, I'd leave them off as I would want MAX heat dissipation with no restriction.

For MAX brightness Far down the road, either consider getting bright LED Highbeams with it, OR you can get HID Extreme Philips, with the Philips tube. This gets you really bright MAX output (Day and night difference from OEM, and a chunk significantly stronger than LED ) and will get you 4700K eventually when about ~150 hours of use is set in. Even off the bat, I liked the color of mine...But,
I think 1310-xenondepot.html must have shipped out the pair of LED's to me, so I will be sharing my photos and experience using them...this way my HighBeams and Fogs would match up color. We shall see.

I would just do as the '14, '15, '16 's are....with no dust covers.
Call and ask a Yota engineer why the design change. What's the difference, right? For one, I've got an LED DRL strip. Is this the reason why they were added? Dunno. BTW, we call them "dust covers", but that is not what Yota calls them.

Yes, I would think its to keep dust out of the inside. But I think it was your picture or someones, and the light fixture mounts and locks onto a sealed round plug-like stopper cap.
If that is not the case and there is a breach to the inside, I would likely figure out a way to leave LED colling fins out and seal around it with a substitute solution, not enclose the fins in that space. If they are HID, I might try and seal off the breach independently. I am sure this is not needed, its an optional solution to come up with.

I can take a picture of it and post it (of 2017), since I have yet to see it clearly.

You can read the threads on it...
The 2017 has a different light housing, as it includes the DRL inside.
Once you have the light head installed, its covering the opening to the main projecter, but not sure if this also "seals" the opening to the DRL lights.
If the light screws in and covers the opening to both, then the dust cover becomes pretty much pointless.

It maybe that you need to fit the fins inside, and if needed use the cover over it.
As long as the heat build up doesn't effect the LED and housing it is fine. These being LED, they get hot, but not like Halogens, which put out much more heat, so it maybe not much of an issue.

So I think you can use the cover, or perhaps leave it off....
XD has a good install write up with photos on their site you should look over.
