Let me see if I can get this one, at least in part. I know that the first letter is the engine series, so in the case of the 4A-GE and 1ZZ-FE, the first is an A-series engine and the second is a ZZ-series engine. The number preceding the first letter represents the engine version within the engine series (i.e. 1ZZ-FE is first vesion, 2ZZ-GE is the second version of the ZZ-series) The G or F after the dash indicates performance head (G) or fuel efficient head (F). If there is another letter thrown in there, as in the case of 4A-GZE, the Z represents a supercharged engine, and a T represents a turbocharged engine. I'm not sure on the last letter 'E'; does it just mean Engine?
