I have yet to test drive one ...there is a dealer within walking distance of my apartment, and I believe they have one in stock, but it might likely be pre-sold. I didn't go when the cars were first out, as my friend went to the same dealer and test drove one already.

Yes it is. Interior didn't impress me, but we all know you don't buy it for its interior amenities. But given the two Toyotas I've owned, a RAV4 and Corolla XRS, I can't say that I've owned anything sporty yet. The RAV4 was awesome for my college years and great to own, the Corolla is much of the same "put gas and go mentality" except I find it numb for a car with 17 inch W rated tires. Actually, after renting a regular 1.8 Corolla on a few occasions, I find the ride to be stiff.
I also got to sit in a BRZ too, in which Subaru was right across from Toyota, and definitely the options of the Subie make it more attractive to me than the FR-S.
speaking of which, Australia got the new hatch, which I really like and it puts Toyota up there with Ford in terms of style. Honestly, I sat in a Focus this weekend, and it is interior styling is just way too busy (Piano Black trim blah). They need to simplify it because it is a good looking car. I do like the ST model, but they need to find a way to sell it with the good options BUT without the MFT.
I don't get why you just don't have a Mr2 and a corolla S 5 speed instead of having four different cars, or either way just forget about the prius and you'll be saving money on gas and insurance.
Because then my wife wouldn't have a car to drive. Here are my cars.....
09 Corolla S - My daily
10 Prius - Wife's daily
07 Corolla CE - daughter drives
95 Corolla DX - other daughter drives
89 MR2 - my toy/fun car
95 Previa - Family trip/Home Depot use!
I pay less then $200 a month for insurance on all 6 cars total, not a lot of savings to sell one car & they all get used. If I was single then maybe I would just have the 2 cars but I'm not & I love cars & I can afford them.

Toyota’s Corolla, which might seem too plain for some tastes, will get an extensive makeover when the redesigned car debuts some time next year. The intent is to change the public’s perception about the automaker’s compact sedan.
In particular, Toyota won’t make the same mistakes Honda did when it cheapened the interior of the redesigned 2012 Civic as a cost-cutting measure. The end result was an embarrassment for Honda. The Civic was blasted by the press and some would-be buyers, forcing Honda to issue a mea culpa and move at a herculean pace to upgrade the look and feel of the Civic’s interior. Judging from the favorable reports about the 2013 Civic, it succeeded.
“The voice of the consumer has been very loud,” particularly in criticizing vehicle interiors, said Richard LoFaso, corporate manager of marketing for the Toyota brand’s cars.
While LoFaso would not give details about the new Corolla, he made it clear Toyota will break new ground for its compact sedan.
“You will see Toyota focus on a couple of key areas on every vehicle we bring to market,” he said. “More-expressive styling, better driving dynamics, improved interior quality and refinement, safety improvements, and fuel economy. We are going to focus on those five things.”
LoFaso points to lessons learned in focus groups when the current-generation Camry (which debuted in 2011) was being developed years ago, particularly negative comments about the interior.
“If you look back at the industry, there was a period when Toyota and all the other major makers were looking for ways to drive the cost out of cars to make the cars more affordable. It wasn’t just us. Everybody in the industry was cautious about cost containment,” he said.
But focus groups complained about the look of those cheapened interiors.
“The voice was loud. I characterize it this way because I heard customers say it: ‘I spend more time looking from the inside out than I do from the outside looking in.’ That comment sticks with me in my mind,” he continued.
They pointed to the design of the instrument panel, the center stack, and the things they touch and feel.
“What the customer is saying is that this is real important space to me,” he said. “If we listen carefully we will give the consumer a much better driving experience.”
As for the redesigned Corolla, LoFaso said “I think you will be pleasantly surprised.”

I sure hope they take the approach they went with the Avalon and NOT with the Camry. The Camry's interior looks much better, but they cut even more costs out of it compared to the Gen 6 and are only now rectifying a few of those things for the '13 model. I sure as hell hope they don't just throw in a stitched dashboard and then cheapen out the rest of the car, like the door panels and the already cheap headliner. The current Corolla is already down in the pits.

I really don't have any complaints with my Corolla interior. I didn't like the plastic dashboard but I put a velour dashmat on on my cars & I love the look of that. My steering wheel feels great in leather & my shift knob is leather too. Most of the other things like switches & knobs would be plastic anyway so I'm just fine with everything!

thats a shame about the matrix, we Love our 2006 Matrix. The biggest set back to the 2nd Gen Matrix was the elimination of the Hatch Glass feature. By far the greatest feature ever on a Compact 4D Hatch/Wagon.
