Interesting if they did that...however, I wonder how many JDM fanboys who love this car (given the hype) would be swayed from it were built anywhere else other than Japan.
I just went through all of the ideas regarding what it will look like and one thing struck me...
Toyota is being very secretive regarding the new 2014 Corolla, If it looked like the 2013 Altis, Axio or other market Corolla derivative why would they be so secretive about it?
To me all of the pics posted of Asian, Euro, Aussie 2013 corolla models still resemble the 10th Gen overall, minus the odd front fascia change. Everything I have heard boasts the whole "Revolutionary Design", like the Avalon but more extreme of a change from the previous Generation.
If Toyota really wanted to throw everyone off they would use those spyphoto cars as decoys and then hit them with a real curve ball at the detroit auto show.

Toyota Styling looks to be leaning towards the new Hexagonal Front Grill. But I have no clue anymore what this thing is going to looks like. If that Furia is the Corolla I would be shocked and say "WTF? That is going to be a Corolla?"
Cause seriously, What other 4-Door car could it be in the Toyota line up? Camry, Yaris, Avalon? hmmmm
It hurts me I can't talk about the 2014, But I have sat in it and spent 15 hours training on it. I like it and it should sell very good. AS for the FR-S it would be cool, TMMC in Cambridge Ontario Canada has won 4 JD power awards and is the only plant outside Japan that builds Lexus... So we would be the top pick for a new car.

JDM fanboys need to wake up an smell a little thing called reality. The FR-S hasn't exactly been trouble free despite being built in the much vaunted Japanesse factory. It is still a good car but lets not pretend that it's any better than say a Camry or a Corolla from a build quality standpoint. Both the Camry and Corolla are built in the US and both are very well built. A friend of mine that works at the Toyota engine plant here was telling me how the quality control is orders of magnitude better than when he worked at the UAW plant that used to be here. So just because the Toyota plant is located in the US does not mean that Toyota allows the standards to slip. They are every bit as strict about it. I wouldn't have any problem at all buying a US built FR-S. I'd probably prefer it if the factory were in the south in fact.
I bring this up because many of these "fanboys" think that America can't build something like the 86/FR-S/BRZ...a lot of different opinions. I think the ones who are open to it being built here had drove previous American cars (such as yourself), while the others have only driven Japanese cars and the like. When my parents were selecting a Lexus RX to buy, you could buy one made in Canada or Japan; while they decided on a RX Hybrid which has been only been built in Japan thus far, I believe we were keen on having a Lexus built in Japan, and not anywhere else. I don't want to allude to the "race thing" again, but from my POV as a Chinese guy, I notice this type of behavior prevalent in the community, where we worship certain things such as where it is made...it is one of those eccentricities of the culture I suppose. For people of Hong Kong descent, Japanese MADE cars are preferred (European cars is a different story...more for the ones that want to show their status and what not).
Sure...that's why Toyota builds more of their cars here than ever before. If they still imported most of what they sold here, they would have that pile of cash at home. Honda has built a larger percentage of their cars here than Toyota. Of all the models adored by the "enthusiasts" or the ones in the "import scene", many of the Civics (and Accords), especially the ones from the 90s which are loved by those JDM/VTEC just kicked in y0 guys, were built in Ohio or Canada. I don't think you'll find a hatchback (EG/EK, whatever) sold stateside that was actually built in Japan (They pretty much made all the RHDs).
Okay y'all. You know the drill. Toyota apparently retooled the robots for the 2012 Camry production line, so they could call the 2012 Camry "all new".
Why doesn't Toyota retool the robots for the 2012 Yaris sedan production line to bring us a 2014 Yaris sedan AND coupe?
Now what about the 2014 Yaris sedan? Some of us LOVE the idea of having a trunk, but don't want to be caught dead in a Corolla.
So here is my rendering of the 2014 Yaris LE Sedan (with parts retooled from the 2012 Yaris HB) and a 2014 Yaris SE Coupe for those who want a 2-door Yaris, but hate the hatchback design (kinda like a first generation Toyota ECHO 2-door).
What do you think? I think I am on to something here.
Yaris Name is Cooler than Corolla. Hold the Applause.

Good question Dimaoala! Many people recognize that the Corolla is reliable, but it is rarely associated with "cool" or "innovative". Toyota needs to realize that cars such as the Mercedes C-Class used to be considered a "poor-man's Benz" until they came out with cool variations of the C-Class, such as the AMG and Coupe! Toyota can make it "cool" to own a Toyota Yaris, because owners could throw around the word "coupe" to impress their friends. The Corolla is harder to revive, because IMO the name "Corolla Coupe" just sounds like it is abandoning the heritage of reliability and practicality. The name "Yaris SE Coupe" sounds fresh and would be more attractive to someone who is buying their first new car, after driving their parent's staid old Corolla for 10 years in Uni or HighSchool!
When I think of a Yaris, I look at it as Toyota's entry level car, it's at the bottom of the chain.
Anyways, that's why Toyota had the 'Xrs' trim, to have that 'cool' factor you're looking for, then eventually axed it due to sales. That's why Toyota has Scion, more of the 'cool' factor I guess lol.
As it is, I prefer the styling of the current Corolla vs. the Yaris.

I'm about to buy a 2013 Corolla because Toyota is running some really good deals right now. Would it be a mistake not to wait until next year? Also, would it be likely that the electronic steering would be improved?
You could wait for the redesigned model but the price will be higher as there are no deals on new models. Also a first year model will have bugs to be worked out. If you can save a few grand off the price, get a 2013. Because it's in its last year, you will have the best built Corolla of the 5 year model run.
