This is an all new Compressor version of the existing model, with a 225hp engine.
As you can see, the interior is still the same, with a a slightly sportier interior.
But it is limited to only in Europe. This is not a redesign but a new trim.
0-60 6.9s
1.8-litre VVTL-i
It is a 1.8 VVTL-i engine with a TTE supercharger developed in Britain and yes it is 225 HP. Those acceleration figures are underrated as Toyota usually does. 2ZZ GE XRS runs a 0-60 in 7.0 secs flat. With a supercharger, that Corolla T Sport Compressor would easily run low 6s or high 5s with 225 HP on a very light weight car. TRD USA sucks and will not bring that supercharger to North America either because of the emissions law.
Jeez, I thought they solved the problem by bringing the XRS version to compensate for the T Sport. Now, I definitely think we should have a Corolla Hatchback. Get a headstart on the Civic. Can't let the 3 own the market :P. I know, we have the Matrix but that seems more wagon-y. Not that it's a bad thing but I think the Matrix should have its own powerplant (maybe a 2.0 litre or something) so that it can be an affordable RAV4 and let the Corolla Hatchback do the sporty thing.

And it has the nice looking grille again. At the last facelift Toyota made the grille look like the one from Corolla Verso, but it is totally out of place on the Corolla. Droopy headlights like the current Yaris and this good old grille makes the car look young again
I hope the rest of the Corollas will follow this update.

Well I think the Yaris hatch fits the bill instead of a Corolla hatchback. Yes it is more related to economy than performance but the North American market still does not have demand for hot hatch like Europe does. Just look at the poor sale of the Civic SIR hatch and it all becomes clear.
Well unfortunately the rest of the US population still prefers big trucks & SUVs. F-150 is still the #1 vehicle sold in the US but looks like that's about to change. How many Golf was sold in the US compare to the F-150? Please do some research before you make a reply.
Don't bring it stateside, people would laugh at those who paid 21K for a corolla. I would buy it, but in america - its hp and price that sell's car. Surely you can get more hp, but its has to be at a cost. In all honetly for the price, i'd rather sport a Tc w/ a trd supercharger than that Corolla. (price wise. the tc w/ s/c would be similar to what that corolla would sale for).
The ever growing population of SUVs is where the emissions end. Europe and Japan gets all the cool stuff like this Compressor Corolla, Civic Type R, Integra Type R etc. and TRD support for this supercharger shows their commitment. All North America gets is a heavy 2910 lbs repackaged Camry (same engine and same gear ratios) with a new look called Scion TC to attract the ricers who care about all show and no go. The $4000 200 HP S/Cér will still make it not even come close to cars like Cobalt SS and Ion Redline given the weight of the car.

Peugeot 206 anyone?
True but a Yaris is a Yaris, a Corolla is a Corolla. I think it'll sell well here in Canada anyway. We love our small cars and frankly, hatchbacks are damn practical and stylish.
The Civic SiR wasn't close to the performance of the old SiRs. It was simply a Honda version of the Mazda3 Sport GT. If they had brought the Type-R, then that's a whole different story. Not to mention the SiR was a bit pricey. This new Si Coupe should be promising.

Looking at facts and figures will reveal that the new Civic Si is nothing special. It has the RSX Type S engine with a bit less power (197 HP) and weighs 100 lbs more (official weight: 2900 lbs). The starting MSRP is $21k on it, but like any other Honda will get great aftermarket support. It is what Toyota did two years ago by dropping the Celica GTS engine and transmission in the Corolla XRS. The cars that are the top performers today are Cobalt SS, Ion Redline, WRX, SRT-4 etc. (as much as I hate to admit that since they are cheaply built, but perform the best).

Yaris is a Yaris and Corolla is a Corolla, yes. But Toyota Canada likes to think removing the Celica and forking us Corolla XRS or the Solara will fit the bill too. At the end of the day both of these cars will sell very well compare to the Celica.
I think it's a good start that we got the new Yaris within 6 months of its annoncement in Japan. Hopefully we'll get more real imports like the Yaris for time to come.
A Corolla/Matrix XRS and Solara can't replace the Celica. The only thing slowing sales was the price. $34,000 for a GT-S? That's pricey when a Solara SLE V6 with waay more luxury and power is about a grand or two more. I really like the Celica. It looked futuristic when it came out and looked good in most bodykits that people (or Toyota) added on.
