Since when did Toyota get off the right track?

The report did not say which model was to be redesigned, but said it would hit the market in two to three years and was likely to be a sporty subcompact -- an area where Fuji Heavy has development expertise.
Id bet that its the Matrix that Fuji works on. A Matrix AWD isnt all that different from a Subaru Impreza. I just hope that Toyota stays away from horizontially-opposed cylinders. Engines like that are a nightmare to work on!

Ok we get the point taht you are trying to trash Toyota at any chance you get right now but pppplllleeeaasseeee, You really think that Subaru can build a better car than Toyota. You have got to be kidding me. What makes you think that. IF they were so good then they would be selling a shit load more cars than they are now. Or if they marketed to more than the outdoorsy liberal homosexual type maybe it would help also.

DOnt you think that would sorta put GM out of luck with the VIbe if that were to happen. You would think if Fuji is going to be doing design work then it would probably also be a vehicle that would be carried inteh Subaru line, maybe I am thinking to much about it. But with GM getting out of FUji and they wre to work on the Matrix together then what would ahppen to the VIbe for Pontiac.

One thing it didnt say was what market the car would be built for also. SO I guess it could go anywhere right now.

What else is up for redesign in the next two years or so. The COrolla maybe.

Well fellas, i believe this is a very important piece of the puzzle towards toyota's introduction of some sport compacts. Toyota definitly made the right move to invest in Fuji. However, I don't believe it will "get better quality" now (which someone remarked). Toyota has always had great quality, one of the best, they definitly have not got "off the wrong track".

My predictions within the next 10 years will be that Subaru will leave what's left with its company in Toyota. They will merge. Just watch, I said it. Subaru is doing fairly well right now, at least up here in Canada.

J/W. How long is the Matrix/Vibe relationship supposed to run between Toyota and GM. Is there any set time on the contract, or can they just go their own ways whenever?

Not sure how long the contract is for. The funny thing is arent all of the Vibes built in Fremont at the NUMMI plant and all the Matrix built in Canada. I think it would be hard for them to each jsut go their own way. The VIbe, according to Pontiac commercials, is the best selling car in its class rightnow. I seriously doubt Pontiac would want to loose that rightnow. Of course a lot of them are going to rental fleets. We used to get a ton of them at the dealership I worked at and they almost all came from Hertz. THe majority of the vehicle is Toyota anyway so they could leave and continue to produce it with now problem but the Pontiac would loose it.

Whats to say that Toyota will still make the Vibe for GM?
GM just came out with the Pontiac Torrent, which is kinda of like the Vibe (looks to be a little bit bigger though), so who knows.
GM left Toyota hanging on the Prizm and went with the cheaper Aveo, whats to say that it wont happen again?
With comments and Toyota bashing that GM has done lately, whats the say that the 2 companies wont go their seperate ways in the future?

Well they didnt really leave them hanging to go witht eh Aveo would you say. The prizm went out of production with the 98 year model and the Aveo wasnt introduced until jsut last year. If the Aveo was intended to replce the Prizm it sure did take them a long time to brign it to market. I would theink the Aveo would be next incarnation of the Metro from the looks of the vehicle. It is in that same class size isnt it.

I'd guess the Aveo falls into the same niche as the Metro had. Both(if I remember correctly) were classified as being sub-compacts. None of them have really been my favorite though.

I wouldn't think of the Torrent as being in the same class as the Vibe. Its the same platform as the Equinox(although i think the Torrent is better looking, but I wouldn't buy eithe probably), and I think a bit more expensive than the Vibe comes in at. The Vibe is currently Pontiac USA's only "entry" level car really.
I could so both car companies going their seperate ways in another 2 or 3 years though.

The Prizm and Corolla shared platforms for what towo generations. It is about time for hte Second generation of the Matrix/Vibe. Maybe they work together for 10 years or so on one platform. Just an idea.

Sounds good Cyorke. I guess when Toyota feels the Matrix is up for a redo, them and GM will get together and decide whether or not to continue the partnership. 10 years sounds like a good amount of time for this "joint" project to go on before finally splitting.

Well the Matrix came out in 03 so if TOyota sticks to their normal 5 year run we should see a new on in 08. If they decide to continue with it. According to the news site it said that FUji would be working on a car that would be introduced in about 2-3 years. That would put it right in line with that time frame. That would also put the next generation Coorlla in the mix also seeing as how the 9th gen was introduced in 03 also and should be due for the 10th gen in 08 or so.
