Toyota Reiz which is made in China is currently on sale in China. Both 2.5V6 (5GR) and 3.0V6 VVTi(3GR) engines are offered. A 6-speed auto-manual transmission is the only choice for rear wheel drive Reiz. Reiz is also known as MarkX in Japan. In U.S., the old Cressida is its equivalent.
AFS, TRC, VSC, HAC, Push-button start, 17-in 215/55 R17 wheels, LED interior lights, LED tail light, power front and back seats are offered
Front end looks like a LF-A
but its about the same size as the avalon. it would be redundant to have two cars of the same class for one auto company to be sold in the states...they'd lose more than they'd gain.

Avalon is a BIG Camry and it's FWD. That appeals to a certain group of people.
The REIZ or Mark X is RWD. This appeals to a different group, more performance oriented group.
Plus look at the success of the RWD 4 dr sedans for Chrysler/Dodge. RWD is on it's way for a come back! And Toyota has a car that can join that crowd, but still hasn't.. they told me to buy a LEXUS. (If I could afford a Lexus I would get one! IS350 is $36k base, plus any options and it's pushing $44k OTD.)
imagine that REIZ, lowered with some 22"... or for the performance crowd.. coilovers and some forged 18' wheels. it's be so nice...

Crown Vic crowd? The Avalon has enough space to be RWD. We might lose the rear flat floor though. Look at the IS, it has the biggest rear hump I've ever seen. They're stuffing the drivetrain into the chassis to improve aerodynamics with a flat-ish underfloor. Of course, interior room suffers.
