Toyota likely to surpass GM in '06

Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.TO) is likely to surpass General Motors Corp. (GM) as the world's biggest automaker next year in production and sales now that GM has announced its major restructuring plan to be implemented at its key North American factories, Kyodo News reported, citing industry observers.
Quote:
There are reports from the United States that Michigan and other states affected by GM's plan have asked Toyota to open its factories in their locale.
It would be good to see Toyota become the world's largest automaker, but they NEED to keep the high level of quality that they are famous for. Sales and production numbers dont mean a thing if the quality isnt there, in my opinion.

Wow, I didn't realize it would be that soon. So I assume its global sales? I knew that there were articles and even Toyota predicting that they would surpass GM maybe 2008 or before 2010. I agree with you, Toyota needs to stay on top as far as quality, that's what I'm worried about, but I'm sure Toyota is well aware of this...as I'm sure they study GM and I don't mean quality study as far as basing their operations on GM's quality of its products, more of overall operations of divisions and company operations on a global scale. If this doen't make sense and you're like what's up with this kid, ignore me, then inform me.

I believe Toyota quality will be just fine. Look at the new avalon. It's beautifully put together and the materials are top notch. I think we are only going to see more of this.
