TRD Toyota's like AMG Mercedes...

I heard a while ago, that TRD may become a brand off of Toyota like you can buy a AMB Mercedes...This would mean a GAURENTEED performace Toyota in the near future, anybody heard of any idea if this/when it may happen?
Thanks!

That doesn't mean it's gonna be there to compete with mercedes nor does it neccessarily mean Hi-Perf. Vehicles. Could just be gussied Toyota's similar to Scion's RS Line. Not to be pessimistic.
But if your lookin for hi-perf. vehicles to compete with AMG and M from BMW.. I'd wait for an announcement from Lexus... (DROOOOOOOOL) Imagine an even better IS

Id say that TRD branded Toyotas would be more similar to Ford SVTs and GM SSs than AMGs.
As was said, Lexus is a closer comparison to AMG.

highly doubt it cuz it would go against the whole hybrid and theyve already set themselves as one who cares about the environtment. yet with all that cash they have, who can stop them?

Well they're starting to promote hybrids as a performance enhancer as well as the environmental benefits.

True.

All of Lexus hybrids will be performance oriented while Toyota hybrids will focus on fuel economy.

Nothing like a hybrid sports car you can rip around the track at day and come home at night quietly in EV mode

Doubt it. In Toyota's past, the high performance stuff hasn't been a big seller. See mr2, Celica and Supra....

Sure they are trying to compete, but notice that they compete w/ cars which are vastly underpowered. The direction I really see Toyota going is for the family and econo car route. Not for the high performance stuff.

I kind of feel as though the lexus stuff is kind of trying to show that Lexus isn't a old man brand but can be sporty too and is used to generate hype about lexus..

well if you notice they are dropping out of most racing series. It seems as if they are trying to concentrate on off-road(Baja type) and then the whole NASCAR series. WIth the success tehy ahve ahd in Craftsman Truck it will not be long til they are going into Busch and NExtel cup. They ahve droped out or IRL, or will very soon.

the supra, mr2, ext might not have been great sellers, but it promotes brand image. It gives the owners of the econo-boxes something to look forward to, to dream. So they can say to the ford guy "the new supra can spank the ford-gt" Makes them proud to own a toyota!
My 2cents.
