Next Celica or MRS

No concrete info, but just something to imagine.

Quote:
The replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued Toyota Celica will feature a hybrid powertrain, according to a new report by Autocar. The 2007/2008 model is said to be mid-engined, with four seats and all-wheel-drive. It is slated to replace the Celica and MR2, but could go buy a different name. Apparently, it will take some inspiration from the CS+S Concept (shown right), although it's unclear to what extent. It will feature a single gasoline engine coupled with two electric motors. The car is also said to feature a folding metal hardtop — something that has never been seen before in a mid-engine car.
There must be some mistake though. It couldn't have four seats, mid-engine, and folding hardtop.

Ya, right. Never believe anything about future toyota models until Toyota announces it itself.

Just wanted to say that the concept shown looks like the Bath tub the Fantastic Four used to fly around in the old days.

if any toyota coupe is conceiveable it would be largely based on the current IS. the basic elements are there to keep cost low. the only thing they would've have to spend r&d on would be the look of the car and maybe decide if it should be hardtop convertible.

^Yes, there's solid plans for Lexus to release 2-door IS as well as a convertible variant. That'll most likely come out wayyyy before the Celica, if Toyota decides to make it again.

i think it would be more of a re-birth of the supra than a celica. people for years have been asking for a replacement but i'm pretty sure toyota has been looking at nissan and mazda sales lately.

i've always said if they were to come out with a supra replacement make it a limited supply per year a'la S2000. so, you don't have the car sitting on dealer lots for months a time. it would be their image car and every car company needs one.

isnt the supra coming back in the next 2 years or something? There are even rough pricing numbers which are slightly higher than celica gt-s for the base 6 cyliner and considerably higher for the 500hp v10 or v8..something I read up on a while ago actually.
