New Lexus Crossover Maybe

Take it however you want. IT sounds like they are getting their information mixed up because it says based off of RAV4 first then says shares underpinning with the Camry and ES then at the end it says shares with the IS.

Not a mixup...Rav4/Camry/ES/IS all share same platform.

I figured the RAV/Camry/ES did but with the IS being RWD that didnt seem to make much sense. Oh well learn something new everyday.

Ditto, I always thought the RAV4 was off the Celica platform (the old one anyway).

Hmm, so Lexus wants an R-Class competitor as well as a B-Class competitor... (ok, I guess RDX is closer as they say).

Wrong. The IS shares it's platform with the GS (IS uses shortened version of GS platform), which also shares its platform with the Toyota Crown.

The ES and Camry currently share the same platform, but this is supposed to be the last gen of the ES to share platforms with the Camry. This is a different platform than the IS.

Also, the Rav 4 "supposedly" has its own platform, or is based off of a modded Camry platform. The Rav 4's platform is a bit of a mystery I guess.

The Lexus CUV would likely share the RX's platform, which in turn is the Camry platform, but the high end Lexus crossover is very likely to use the GS platform.

platform

There was talk when the o.g. RAV4 came out that it was based on the Celica platform. I remember being quite shocked by that at the time. I'm not sure that continued with Gen II, I thought it had moved to a Corolla platform, but that was just my speculation. There is no way it rides on a Camry platform, Camrys spawn Highlanders and RXs, much bigger than the Gen II Rav.

Now if indeed the new RAV is on its own platform, then it only makes economic sense to spin off another vehicle. Remember Toyota is amazing at platform sharing, but this is in no way just badeg engineering like the Domestics do. I for one can't wait. If it is a 2008, that will undoubtedly be my next vehicle. Are you listening Lexus, a guaranteed sale here in Cali.

I believe that the orginal Rav was built on the Celica but I remember reading a press release saying that the new Rav has its own platform.
