NOt the new one but the current one. THey are offering pretty deep incentives to keep people buying the currnet one instead of waiting for the new one to come out.
I think this is not very alarming... All vehicles go through this. It is not the Pontiac Aztec that is getting redesigned and looking awesome for 2007 and the older won't sell.. ( I know it was discotinued)... but I don't think this would be a problem...
"The current Toyota Tundra has been a record-setter for the company. Last year Toyota Motor Corp. sold every Tundra it made: 126,529. It hopes to do the same if not better this year as current production levels aren't expected to go down."
"The Camry is another model that is getting an update. But the new one is coming out in April, not 10 months from now like the new Toyota Tundra.
"That's not surprising as people get a glimpse of the new one, they might wait," said Rebecca Lindland, auto industry analyst for the research firm Global Insight. "Again, it could be in anticipation or a changeover issue."
That is the one of main differences between Toyota and GM. GM produces cars no matter how well it sells...often to the point where supply well exceeds demand. So they have to stockpile them in huge lots across the continent. So when the new model arrives, they're stuck with old models with a year worth of dust on them. Hence...firesale!
Toyota on the otherhand...builds vehicles to order. Dealer wants one...they produce one. Nothing sitting around in huge parking lots collecting dust. Hence Toyota sells everything it makes.
Here in Southern California you can pick up a new 2006 SR5 Tundra Double Cab with limited slip and a few other upgrades for $23,000. This is for a vehicle that stickers for over $30,000. Just keep your eyes on the LA Times for the ads. Stuart
nothing to be alarmed about. Plus, big incentives are a little different for pickups and SUVs. Since the profit margins are larger, they can offer more $$. If they offer $3000 off a tundra -- thats standard. $3000 off a corolla could mean there's trouble!
(but i'd buy another corolla at that point probably)
If they are worried about the current one so much, why don't they bring out the new one? Maybe they will have a good first year. And sell more than Dodge, Ford, GMC, Chevy, and Nissan all together!

I think the one shown in February was just to show what's to be expected. Its obviously and all a marketing ploy, I think from what I read Toyota is waiting on GM's new 900 series pick-ups to roll out with their specs and all that. Also I believe the new plant in San Antonio, Texas is still under construction and the plant isn't expected to open till late this fall, so by defult they really can't bring the new Tundra out to play. But you are right, I bet if Toyota was like a year ahead and the new Tundra came out now, it would sell like hot cakes-despite gas prices-at least for the market its going for. I guessing you're not serious on selling more than Dodge, Ford, GM, and Nissan, you're just making a statement. I guess we'll have to sit on our thumbs and wait...
