Lexus announced pricing for the all-new 2007 ES 350 entry luxury sedan. The fifth-generation ES
goes on sale April 21 with a base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $33,170. The 2007 ES 350 improves upon every level of comfort,
safety, performance and craftsmanship in the elegant five-passenger sedan.
2006 Lexus ES 330 - $32,995
2007 Lexus ES 350 - $33,170
*Competitors are cheaper than the ES 350 "With improved value, competitive pricing and features previously unavailable in the entry-luxury segment, the all-new 2007 Lexus ES
represents the best value in its segment."
It is not really the best value if it cost more than its competitors. We are again mislead by Toyota/Lexus. Why can't the price go down? $175 increase is a lot of money and will make many choose a different brand over the Lexus.
R.I.P. ES330

Please. Even most economy cars go up more than that per year even when they haven't been redesigned.
"and will make many choose a different brand over the Lexus."
No one chooses one luxury car over another because of a $175 difference.
Yea, guess your right. But if you see the other brands, the base models are cheaper. And Lexus claimed the ES 350 is the best value in its segment. But its not, it cost more than its competitors. Many things that are options should of been standard.
I don't know about the US specs but best value does not equal cheapest price. How do you know you're not getting more for that extra $175. Here in Canada, the price went up by $3,000 but that's because all the stuff that should've been standard on the ES330 at Cdn$39,900 is now standard on the new $42,900 ES350.
Stuff like power moonroof, TRAC, VSC, 6CD Changer, 17" alloys. Then there's the new features like the 3.5 litre engine, 6-spd semi-auto, auto-recirculation, AUX input, mp3/wma, ASL, SmartAccess system, push button start, LED illumination, dual front knee airbags, power tilt/tele steering wheel, tyre pressure monitoring system and side window defoggers (à la LS400)

If the base model is $33K a fully loaded version will be in the mid-40K while many other cars will be under 40K fully loaded. It is supposed to be a near-luxury car, but it has a luxury car price.

"Value" is a vague enough term that pretty much any company could call its products "great values" in a press release. No doubt most do.

And gimme any other entry-level car that has luxury car options? Those listed in the first post have the basics covered - premium audio, leather, moonroof, HIDs, nav whether standard or optional. That's good, for a few years ago. Lexus is just pushing the boundary with PCS, adaptive headlights, panoramic roof, more driver seat adjustments, SmartAccess keyless system and so on. Heck, even the IS gets LS430 quality leather (if you opt for the premium leather, not the "standard" leather). I can probably assume that the "premium leather" option on the ES is also the semi-aniline leather from the LS430.

I think Lexus should not have so many options. The prices quickly go up and will make people choose different cars. Why not have Mark Levinson standard, leather standard, navigation standard, adaptive cruise control, PCS, laser cruise control? It would set it more apart.

Ok, now you're just contradicting yourself lol. You say the prices are too high after loading all the options so you want the options standard? Now you're looking at a US$40k car that's supposed to compete with $32k cars and people are gonna wonder if the extra $8k worth of standard equipment is worth the price (think RL).
I mean if Lexus Canada made the ES350 $54,300 with all the options standard, I wouldn't consider the ES. The whole point of options is for people to choose what they want. Some people like what the ES offers and don't need/want the navigation system or don't really care for premium audio. The fact that it offers those as options is already what sets it apart. No other competitor has adaptive cruise control or PCS (laser cruise control is adaptive cruise control). Heck, Canada doesn't even get those two options. What other car company has the best audio system as an option? (although I guess some would say Bose is better) or one of the best sat nav systems?

I mean like have most of the equipment that are options and making them standard without raising the price. The $175 price increase is too much for so little.
