This goes for Japan also. Lexus just came out in Japan, and it has all the luxury items of course, but so does the non luxury vehicles. Frickin Estima Minivan comes with a HID, Air Ionizers, Alloys, and all those goodies. A Hond Stepwagon, (a boxy minivan) comes with HID's, TURBO, Air Ionizers, NAV and other goodies. Neither Estima or a StepWagon is not a Luxury minivan, but if there is an option, it sells, as Japanese people are very passionate about cars to a point of obsession.
American way (stupid way I think) is, "if you want the luxury items, then go buy a Luxury car."
Put HID"s on a camry dammit, and stop making it an exclusive item for the Lexus ES.

I agree, at least many of the features should be optional. The sad thing is that lots of things here in North America are driven by marketing, and if they see there's no market for such and such features, then they won't offer it, even though there are people willing to buy those features. What's even more pathetic is the fact that some people who're willing to shell out the cash for some features (that're optional overseas) couldn't even get it here since it's not even optional.
