Canada 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid: First Impressions

Toronto, Ontario. A bunch of journalists from across Canada are gathered by Toyota to check out their latest gas/electric vehicle, the new 2007 Camry Hybrid.

First of all, the Honda Accord Hybrid is stiff competition for the Camry, being a powerhouse that out-accelerates its V6-equipped counterpart and sips only 6.4 L/100 km on the highway.

In addition, Toyota's research showed that a growing number of people are willing to give hybrid vehicles a try, but they don't want any compromises. These people want to know when their extra investment in a hybrid will start to pay off. How long will it take to recover the higher cost of the car with its fuel savings?

I saw a blue on on the road yesterday. The rear lights looked very sharp.

could somebody explain this? the hybrid's Cd is .27, but the "regular" camry's is .28

as far as i can see, the exterior is identical to the ce/le/xle - same nose, ground clearance, etc...

is this just for marketing purposes?

satin finished grille, blue-tinted headlight compound, HYBRID emblems, LED brakelights, HSD emblem and a larger reverse light round out the exterior features.

The Camry hybrid is a hell of a lot better than the Accord hybrid. The Accord has pretty much no advantage over the regular EX V6 other than the 8 more horses. The Camry hybrid gives you better fuel economy, better pricing, while providing 1MZ like acceleration.

Camry Hybrid takes 7.5 Seconds to reach 0-60. That is really slow compared to the Accord Hybrid and Camry V6. Also the Camry Hybrid gets a little better in Gas Mileage.

That's faster than the new ES350 (7.8 secs).

Also, it's HALF the V6's economy.

~1sec slower is really slow, but 10+mpg is just a little?

The Cd on the Hybrid is achieved by using better underbody aerodynamics and an air tight fuel tank, I believe.

Let's not forget the whole purpose of a hybrid. It is fuel economy. I think Toyota's decision to put it in a 4 cylinder makes sense. I don't know what Honda's goal was. Make a fast hybrid car? but not necessarily a very fuel efficent one?... Fuel efficient consider the power ofcourse...
