Looks like we now have official confirmation that the North American Corolla will be delayed until 2008. This should end a lot of argument and debate .
Keep in mind, over a dozen Corolla variants exist worldwide, and the JDM Corolla is still scheduled to be released this Fall. I'm guessing the European variants of the new Corolla will be out next year, with the USDM Corolla coming out last.
It was already known that Toyota's engineering resources were maxed out, but this shows some interesting insight on the matter. It looks like Toyota used a large amount of it's resources to pull ahead the new Camry's arrival by 6 months, and due to that, has now delayed the new Corolla.
The rumour that the delay was caused due to a redesign after seeing the new Civic might still be true, but unlikely. If that really were true, it would cause a delay of more than one year.
FINALLY. something official so I can stop looking like an idiot telling everyone it is slated for launch at the beginning of 2008!!!!!!!! I've been saying this for HOW LONG on these threads?!??!

MY2003 was actually released very early in CY2002. So, it has been pushed back. Thankfully, now they can further refine the ZR engines, and build a worthy Civic competitor.
``We decided to let Corolla go a little longer, mainly because Corolla has been such a huge sales success compared with where we thought it would be at this stage of its life cycle.''
thats true so guess it would make since to hold it off
Probably true, but who's complaing? The Corolla is still a very competent car.

If it weren't for rising gas prices, I'm sure the Corolla wouldn't be as popular with its older body style.
I agree... Now adays it's the Prius that draws the people in, and then when they see the price for one and the long wait, and the dealer Mark ups... they go.. hmm.. that Corolla or Matrix... It's about half the price of the prius and get's about 35-38mpg... not bad at all.

Again,... 2003 being the first year... 2008 should be normal.. Why are we looking at the release date??
You can't have it both ways.....either the car came out in 2002 and the last one is sold in 2007.... or the model year is 2003 to 2008 being the same...either way thats 6 years.
The new model will be arriving in 2008 as a 2009 model.......lets all count together 2003,2004,2005,2006,2007,2008....that looks like six years of the same car don't it? the new model will be a 2009 model.
