Eh, they're based off of the same engine series, so the technology is exactly the same. Now if you're referring to Toyota's D-4S system, then yes, that's where the 2GR-FSE has an advantage over the 3GR-FSE. Otherwise, they are very similar in design.
The 2GR is really just a destroked 1GR with better flowing heads and a totally revamped fuel system. The differences between the 2GR-FE and 2GR-FSE are numerous, however.
EDIT: I just realized Toyota tuned the 2GR-FSE differently to match the GS' weight difference. The torque now comes in at 3600 rpm vs the IS' 4800 rpm, and total horsepower is down 200 rpm to 6200 rpm vs the IS' 6400 rpm. The GS460 will probably be available for MY2008 since the LS460 hasn't even been released yet. Just because the V8 is down on power compared to the V6 doesn't automatically make the V6 better. The 3UZ is still an excellent motor. Quiet, smooth, and still relatively powerful. Torquey too.
