Toyota Sets High Goals for New Tundra

Quote:
Washington DC September 15, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Toyota expects to sharply increase its share of the big pickup truck market with the launch of the newly redesigned 2007 Tundra.

"We're looking to double volumes and penetration," said Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations at Toyota Motor Sales USA. "We're focusing on about 200,000 [Tundra sales] next year, which would give us about 10 percent market share, and we'd grow from there." So far this year, Tundra sales account for 7 percent of the total U.S. full-size pickup truck segment.

Toyota dealers in the U.S. have invested $1 billion in their facilities over the past three years in order to expand showrooms and service bays to accommodate the next Tundra. They are expected to spend another $2 billion over the next two years, reports The Detroit News.

Can't wait till it comes out! It going to be interesting how the market reacts to it.

So which is it, increase production or cut back???

Either way, they can definately sell 150K a year and for the first year 200K would be an obtainable goal. I think a lot of it will depend on fuel prices... guy at dealership: do I REALLY need a fullsize tundra or will a tacoma suit my needs just fine with better fuel mileage? Toyota needs to get themelves some contracts and sales should really take off.

I already think theres A LOT of reaction to it already. I've read many other forums (not gonna say any names of them) of what they think of the new Tundra and they hate it, they obviously can't take that this Tundra can actually put a huge dent in the big and mighty other trucks sales. Can't wait though till this comes out so they'll be a real comparison of what's the best.

You don't have to protect the obvious Tundra hater forums. GMI, Edmunds, TruckTrend..blah blah. I for one thing the new Tundra will be the new kid on the block that gets respect when its present, but disrespect behind its back.

Let them hate it...... Just human nature... .......... Kind of like they hated the first Toyota's in 1950s and thought it had no future..... What has Toyota accomplished until now.. ???
