The 6th gen Camry's 6-speed automatic is also failing due to a snap ring issue or something. Supposedly, Toyota has changed transmission suppliers. Still doesn't help those that are currently without transmissions because they're on backorder.

Would they not need to make a new transmission design to cut costs? By making a new one, one would think that it would be possible to give cut costing a higher priority than everything else (e.g. quality).

By the way, does the new 2007 Avalon have any transmission problems (i.e. did they fix the software bug and not introduce any new problems)? My mother is planning on buying one in January but the possibility of it having transmission problems because of cost cutting is starting to scare me.

I'm just saying that when designing new things, cost cutting doesn't mean reducing quality. I'm sure there are other reliable ways to reduce cost or maybe other ways of getting a part at a reduced price. All I know is that they shouldn't get overconfident in their record breaking profits. They still have to stick to their principles of offering good quality cars with unsurpassed reliability. It's probably gonna be harder and harder especially with all the electronics which seem to have higher failure rates than good old mechanical stuff. Still, in a world of lowest price = better, I still think quality stands and there will be people willing to pay a slightly higher price if it's a good product.

To be honest, I'm sick of all the cheap stuff. I don't care if it's cheap or not. If it keeps breaking, that to me is more annoying than having to pay more.
