LF-A/Supra gonna have their work cut out for them: The Audi R8

2007/2008 Audi R8 unveiled

Audi has just unveiled the 2008 R8 — its first ever production supercar. Sales will begin in the first half of 2007 for the United States and Europe. The car has a 420 horsepower high-revving V8 engine and all-wheel-drive. It uses the mid-engine Lamborghini Gallardo platform, and will sell for around $100,000 — positioning it squarely against the BMW M6 and Aston Martin Vantage. It features LED headlamps surrounded by LED running lights and indicators. LEDs are also used in the engine bay to make the impressive V8 visible even at night. Claimed 0 to 62 mph time is 4.6 seconds, though this number is likely conservative. Gallery after the jump…

Agreed. In fact, I'm surprised the R8 only has 420hp, although it seems to have a great powerband.

Bring on the battle of the Supercars!

People with a 100,000 dollars to spend on a car probably don't care much about that.

The more money I have, the less headaches I would want from life... I have worked hard for my money and I deserve the best.

The less money I have, the least headaches I would want from life..... I have enough worries in life and the car should not be giving me any worries.

How can a vehicle be respected when I have paid 100k for it and it is giving me grief??....
I don't care if it can FLY... and PLEASE don't tell me that is the symbol of an "automobile enthusiast" as many arrogant entities here casually mention that here occassionally..

A small squeak and rattle can annoy the crap out of some people.. and I am one of them. I live and breathe for cars but do not respect any vehicle that is not put together properly..

Anyway, what are the LATEST news on the next LF-A/SUPRA anyway??

Jeez, this Audi hasn't even come out yet, and people are saying it will be a rattle-trap piece of junk. Lets just wait and see (well ok, those of us who have $100,000 to spend on a car can see )

My comments were not aimed at the " A U D I "...

Just a general statement....

Have you heard of things people have been saying about the next Tundra? Read the blogs on different websites or even on this one?
EVEN if people are saying something bad about the " A U D I ".... why should ONLY " A U D I " be an exception for you ?

PS... THEPUNDIT................ Are you a real pundit...?? Pundits marry people in Southeast Asia right?? I saw a picture of a pundit once.. a very colorful one.. Sorry aside from the topic..

Nice Car, but could I just ask what the HELL this is doing in the Toyota News section? I was expecting to get some info about the LF-A/Supra......not a whole thing about an AUDI. I hate when people get me excited about nothing, If I wanted to read about the R8 I'd go to the Audi forum, if there is such a thing. Regardless, it's a nice car.....just has nothing to do with Toyota.

I do agree that Audi's past can leave you wondering just a bit though....

Its a very nice looking car...I have no doubt it can perform well with the big boys, Audi does make some good performance cars...its too bad they can't inject the styling to reflect this, with the exception of this car. But that's just me. I can't wait for Lexus' varient in this segement.

Let me put it to you this way. People do not buy a $100,000 car because it doesn't give you a head ache. After all, how many supercars are used as daily drivers? A $100,000 is usually your status symbol and if you are a really rich performance fanatic, then you take it out to the track about ever two weeks or a month.

Also, i see a lot of people talk about long term reliability. Not saying it's not important. It is. Especially for people who buy used cars or hold on to cars for longer periods of time than the three or four years, but there is also a very large percentage of car buyers who change their cars every couple of years just out of boredom. They don't care about reliability. Sure they don't want a piece of crap in those terms, but at the same time they are not thinking if their car will start four or five years from now or not.
