I was reading msnbc this morning as I do every morning, and in the article about how the Tundra is taking aim at the "Big 3" it gives performance specs for the Tundra!?
Indeed, the new 2007 Tundra is much larger and more powerful than its predecessor, with a 5.7-liter, 381-horsepower V-8 engine, compared with the old 271 horses. Trucks start rolling off the San Antonio assembly line next month and hit the showrooms early next year.
WOW, 381 HP, if that's accurate, i'm impressed. I wanna hear the specs on the torque!
Hummm that's very interesting...the article confidently says the horespower spec, they don't mentioned Toyota said anything...I'll take it with a fine grain of salt but I guess we'll see! Toyota hasn't officially released the specs yet right? Anyway great article thanks for posting!

That's a lot of power! I guess the big question would be, can toyota push the mpg out of it? The new GM trucks with around 320 HP 5.3L are preliminarily listed as 16 city and 21 highway. My truck has 290 HP and even that is a lot for a truck. It's more than I need but makes it fun when I hit the "go pedal." I get 15 city 18-19 hwy with my truck.
Like I said before, the new Tundra will be impressive, but I REALLY wish they had spent more time in the body design department

If it has variable valve timing, it will get good milage. As far as the styling goes, I hated it at first too but the more I see it the more I like it. Its not as if the new Tundra is any uglier than the '07 Silverado or the new Ford Super Duty.

Toyota: Like other cars, only better.

Hopefully it will get good mileage, the prev gen Tundra's had alot of complaints about the gas mileage. I have a feeling it's going to look better in person.

Trucks can be ugly...
I think the Tundra will look even better when actually seen on the road.
381hp! delicious! Hopefully that's accurate. I was expecting between 350-400.
And from what I've heard, Toyota is making a Turbo kit for the 5.7 (maybe SC?)

Actually, the Tundra's 5.7L V8 is the 3UR-FE. This has already been confirmed, along with several other obvious things seeing as it's a UR block. It has Dual VVT-i, but lacks the direct fuel injectors found on the 1UR-FSE. It's a ULEV-II engine (ditto for Nissan's 5.6L LEV rated Endurance V8) and due to super-tight and super precise engine and parts tolerances, it only needs 5W-20/0W-20 oil.
