Not rumors... they got fines and Michael Waltripp racing now have to win their way into the 500 today!
Not Toyota's fault though, this is all on Waltrip racing's crew cheif... but not a great start for them none-the-less!
They were using a substance they use to light under platters to keep them warm in the restaurant industry... it helps bring in more air flow to the engine and is illegal... also some others got in trouble for illegal trunk fasteners and other stuff...

It's called methanol. I doubt it's the same substance, the methanol restauarants use is in a gel form, unless they had some creative device to dispense it with the regular fuel mixture.
Since they aren't wanted there and with the American Auto makers already looking bad, it would really be bad if TOY won. I wonder if the other teams have someone on the inside who delibertly sabatoged the TOY team.......hmmmmmmmmm
Not rumors,
Waltrip's team was fined $100,000 and docked 100 owner and driver points.
Crew chief David Hyder and competition director Bobby Kennedy were ejected from Daytona International Speedway and suspended indefinitely.
Apparently the "Gel" that they wiped on the inside of the intake manifold boosts the octane of the fuel resulting in increased horespower. (mothball Gel?)
Since this is a brand new car/team, Waltrip had to race his way into the 500 anyway regardless of this situation.
Seems like NASCAR is cracking the whip this season.

I never laughed so hard as I did when I heard they used jet fuel, I'd like to meet the MORON press guy who cane up with that It does'nt take a brain surgeon to know jet fuel is a distillate ( i.e. kerosene, diesel & heating oil ) and would only hurt horsepower.
yea lol, jet fuel. I'm betting it's chafing fuel, like sturno. I've heard old school hot rod guys use to smear that stuff in their intake and it'd boost octane. But using Jet fuel would be no better then pouring fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, it's the same stuff.

That's exactly what it is.

You could see how upset Waltrip was about it. In an interview I saw today he commented that he actually was considering just packing up and going home, but that his wife and NASCAR president Mike Helton convinced him to stay and race.
They all cheat, its just that some of them get caught every now and then. Im not excusing that behavior, but its a fact of life when you are competing at the top level of any sport.

Toyota: Like other cars, only better.
It is not jet fuel, but is reported to be a component of jet fuel -- an oxygenate that (by virtue of introducing more oxygen molecules) can increase an engine's power output. It has nothing to do with increased airflow...
Toyota is none too pleased with the situation; they are seeking acceptance in Nascar, and they value their corporate integrity.
btw, jet fuel is indeed kerosene....no more, no less. It doesn't have anything else in it....just really clean kerosene. In northern climayes, there is a version of jet fuel called 'jet B'....which contains a small amount of naptha for cold weather starting.....but that may or may not enhance performance

Your right. IMO it was sturno lined fuel components.
