Tundra w/ a diesel?

I read that the trundra is going to offer in the next couple of years a diesel and HD truck setup to compete with the the dodge cummins, duramax and powerstroke towing trucks. Is there anything to that? I currently have a '96 GMC 2500 w/ the 6.5 diesel to pull my 5th wheel. I always said if toyota came up with a towing diesel truck I'd buy it.

At this point I think its speculation. It depends on how the new Tundra does then Toyota will introduce more engine options and may make a HD version of the Tundra. Sometimes I read Toyota isn't doing one then I read they might, I'm sure they will eventually. It just depends on the market. Toyota only has a fraction of the truck market so...but I think the Tundra will do fine and hopefully Toyota will introduce a diesel, they should to stay competative. That's my educated guess, I'm sure someone here has more of a concrete anwser.

Cool

Toyota makes great smaller diesel engines overseas.
Toyota bought stock in Isuzu.

Eventually you'll see it, but I wouldn't expect it until atleast the first complete generation update. No sooner than 5y ears from now,. Probably likely to see it in 5 years & more likely to see it in 7 1/2 years, at the mid-generation update.

^ Don't they own Hino too? Although Hino just might go and make a underpowered diesel for the Tundra hahaha....

Dunno what we'll see or when, but a HD Tundra diesel would be a logical progression. The new Tundra is finally full size, and certainly seems capable of significant impact on the 1/2 ton truck market. There is a ready market for 3/4 and 1 ton diesel trucks, including dual-rear wheel models. If Toyota intends to be a true major player in the full-size truck market, they will have those models available in the foreseeable future. I would think two to three years might be about right, but what do I know?
