. . . . . I don't get it? Is this your opinion, or is there a link to an article? Personally, I see little resemblance, other than 4 wheels, a pug nose, and the basic (boring) minivan shape. . . .

Honestly I saw that and wanted more opinion on the matter. It is definately old and boring looking but I wasn't too sure how much of a knock off it really was????

It's the "facelifted" HiAce we get here. The exterior changes are kept to an absolute minimum to keep the cost for replacement parts down.

I have seen one or two in this version. The most common one I see is this:

Vans like these in Europe are used like trucks are in USA.

It is extremely reliable, cheap to repair, has pretty low safety equipment (a couple of airbags and ABS), roomy and good fuel economy (the 2.5l diesel gets 28mpg).

A copy of the Aerostar? Nope.

Actually it looks just like a early 90's VW Eurovan.

I've driven hiace before. they are awesome and seat a LOT of people.
There are whole lot of asian van's we dont get here and they were ALWAYS available abroad. Only a TROLL who's ignorant wouldn't know all this cus, he lives in his little "i love domestics" cocoon. Live and grow up...

Here is hyundai:

Here is Nissan:

These three are among the best, with my personal fav being nissan. (it had dual a/c's and removable seats - toyota didn't have removable seats last i checked).
